Not sure if you guys heard, but apparently Fran's son is having surgery today to remove a tumor on his Thyroid, so Fran is back in Iowa right now. From what Sportscenter told me, he is planning on joining his team in time for the game tonight, but there is still a chance that he stays in Iowa for the night and misses the game

Just saw a report stating that the tumor removed from the son of Franny McCaffery was found to be malignant. I got to know Franny pretty well during his time at Penn and while I wouldn't wish this on anyone it's especially difficult when it happens to someone as classy as Fran and the rest of his great family. I hope those among us will extend their thoughts, and your prayers for those so inclined, to the McCaffery family.

I got to know Fran a bit my freshman year (his transfer year from Wake; I was on the JV team that year). I hope the doctor caught his son's condition quickly enough that the prognosis will be good and he can recover completely. My best wishes to the family as well.

Iowa Hawkeyes extending men's basketball coach Fran McCaffery's contract through 2028
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketba ll/story...
- Hawkeyes coach Fran McCaffery signed a four-year contract extension through 2027-28 on Monday after leading the eighth-ranked Hawkeyes to the Big Ten tournament semifinals and their highest NCAA tournament seeding since 1987. -
- McCaffery's annual base salary of $2.3 million for the next two seasons will remain unchanged. He took a 15% pay cut for this year to help the athletic department offset shortfalls caused by the pandemic. He is on track to receive longevity bonuses at the end of the next two seasons.
His annual salary will increase each of the last five years of the deal. Those increases were not announced. -
FYI - Fran's son, Patrick, is a red-shirt freshman on this year's team.

Congratulations to Fran. I don't know a. lot about coaching salaries, but it sounds like a hometown discount. Good for him. The Penn coaching tree is killing it.

Just checked Zillow. $2.3m per year gets you a really nice house in Iowa City.
