Penn defeats Yale 16-9. On to the NCAA (likely along with 4 other Ivies.) Selection show tonight at 9pm. Penn is the probable 3-seed behind Maryland and Georgetown.

This team, which often played down to its competition (see close wins after rallies against teams like 'Nova and St. Joes) saved it's best games for the Ivy tournament - knocking off 2 very good top RPI teams back-back and avenging tough losses in the process.

Look for a home game to open the NCAA next weekend.

Tournament bracket here.

Six Ivies get bids, five host.

Our heroes seeded #3, host Richmond Saturday at 2:30 at Penn Park (I assume Franklin Field will be busy with graduation.)

Yale gets #4, hosts St. Joe's on Saturday.

Princeton is #5, hosts BU on Saturday.

Cornell is #7, hosts Ohio State on Sunday (That has the extra interest that Ohio State needs to beat Cornell in order to play on their own field in the Elite 8.)

Brown is #8, hosts Virginia on Saturday.

Harvard unseeded, goes to #6 Rutgers on Sunday. Should Penn win, we will play the winner of that game at Hofstra next weekend.

Reading stories on the Notre Dame tears about not making the tournament was sweet.

Enough belly aching by the Notre Dame fans. It was between Notre Dame, Ohio State, Duke, and Harvard for the last two at large spots. My guess is that the Committee disqualified Duke off the bat because Duke had three losses to non-top 20 teams. Once Duke was out of the picture, Notre Dame had no other impressive wins. They were not going to beat out Ohio State for a bid since Ohio State beat them head to head.

Not counting Notre Dame’s 2 wins against a disqualified (in the Committee’s view) Duke, Notre Dame’s best wins were against Syracuse and UNC, neither of which was a top 20 team this year. Harvard, with wins against Princeton (a top 5 team at the time) and Brown and BU (both teams that were in the top 15 most of the season) had a better resume - plain and simple. None of Notre Dame’s wins are anywhere near as impressive as those.

So memo to all Notre Dame fans, please just shut up already.

I saw them whining that "we beat UNC and Duke". LOL when you look at the rankings.
