Nice 8-0 run to get to 28-20. ODU is settling for contested 2-point jumpers and the Tigers have hit a bunch of open threes.

After a nice little run the Tigers are up 27-20 with 8 to go in 1H. Defense is once again active and ball movement is fluid.

37-30 at half - Peters already 80% of the way to a Mizzou game (against a defense similarly uninterested in guarding the three-point line).
Princeton defense was hanging on for dear life early - ODU was getting whatever they wanted 1-on-1 and missed three layups - but really tightened over the final 12 minutes.

37-30, got the lead to 11 before ODU hit a couple tough shots. Lee took a very hard foul at the end, I hope he is okay. Tigers controlled the first half, when the starters are on the court they are a clearly better team to my eyes.

62-43 with 7+ minutes to go. ODU is not getting any easy shots and the Tiger offense is yielding a lot of open looks and layups. Pierce already with a double-double.

71-51 with 2 to go and reserves set to enter the game. Jack Scott has looked really good and is +11 in 12 minutes. I also have been watching Jacob Huggins and he is a very athletic big man. Hicke played 10 minutes but was not much of a factor when he was on the court.

Bart Torvik's rankings let you take away the preseason priors and just rate teams on how good they've been this year - Princeton is #23 nationally (three other Ivies are in the top 100)

And if you want to look ahead ... right now Princeton is #4 in Wins Above Bubble and KenPom projects a 23-4 record, which would probably be something like 0-0 Quad 1, 5-3 Quad 2, 1 loss outside it. I don't know if I'm betting on that team to get an at-large if they lose in the tournament, but it's a real possibility, especially with some reputation points from last year.

This was as perfect of a game as you could play. Just a clinic on both ends.
Xaivian Lee has taken a colossal leap this year. He's cut down on his mistakes and expanded his arsenal of moves. He's also great at contesting opposing 3s, even getting several blocks.
Our lack of depth remains a red flag, but that's part of having an Iron Five. When your starters have such great chemistry, it's hard for someone to step in for short spurts. If we can stay healthy (knock on wood), this could be a special team just like last year.

From the Old Dominion game recap:
While the outcome was disappointing for ODU, the Monarchs could take solace in knowing this may be the best team they play this season.
ODU (1-3) lost at 14th-ranked Arkansas last week, but Monarch head coach Jeff Jones said Princeton is the better team. Princeton is 5-0, with all five on the road, including a victory over Rutgers of the Big Ten.
“That team right there is the best team we've played," Jones said.
"They made us play and the second we made a mistake they were able to capitalize it. I was very impressed with them tonight and it highlighted how far we've got to go."
ODU could do little to stop Xaivian Lee, a lightning quick sophomore guard from Toronto, Ontario who scored 19 points.
"We didn't have an individual who was able to stay in front of Lee," Jones said.
Jones is trying to meld eight newcomers with his holdovers from last season and said so far, it is a work in progress.
"Two things have to happen for us," he said. "We've got to be a heck of a lot smarter. We've got to understand situational basketball. We've got a lot of young guys who are learning, but given our schedule, they've got to learn more quickly.
"The second thing is that we've got to be a lot tougher physically. I thought that was another area where Princeton excelled."

Yes! This is the best defensive Princeton team I have seen since the Steven Cook days. They have the athleticism and discipline to apply intense pressure on every possession. And their toughness and physicality has been a big factor too. 50-50 balls seem to end up in the Tigers’ paws much more than half the time.
In the past few years some Princeton posters have suggested that Coach Henderson spend some time studying Coach Berube’s defensive tactics. Watching both teams it seems that the men have definitely increased their level of commitment to “getting stops”. A big takeaway for me yesterday was that ODU had to work really hard when they had the ball to find a good shot. As the women have found, that will keep the Tigers in just about every game if they can maintain that level of focus and intensity.
Another big takeaway was how different the team plays this year without Tosan. Huge credit to the coaches and players to find a new formula for success and to mold the returning talent into a cohesive unit this early into the season. The Iron Five approach has accelerated the process of forging a new identity and Jack Scott is becoming another reliable piece of the puzzle. It will be interesting to watch the process of Davis, Huggins and Hicke figuring out their roles in order to minimize the drop off when the starters are not all on the floor.
