Bruce Moore out with a broken hand (season-ending?). Pomeroy has the Bison as a 5-point underdog, but I think 10+ is more realistic.

Btw, the Bison have lost 16 of the past 22 games vs the spread.

So playing without Bruce just like the home game against Navy. Felt like he would have made the difference the first time around and it's going to be a struggle again (but they all are at this point). But I've been told our injury luck has been average...
Very striking to see the 2nd half cold scoring droughts broken out in the pregame article too. A decent number of open shots in those windows that just didn't go down. Sometimes you come out on the wrong side of variance.
A season where things seem cosmetically aligned against the Bison.

Well, their play hasn't been pretty, that's for sure.

The cosmetic typo was prescient - obviously if we switched to the grey uniforms earlier we'd have been leading the league ...

If all else fails, try the grey uniforms!

Interesting interview with Avi at halftime. He talked about how he thought about sitting this season out when he injured his nose in the preseason.

Fun fact: The switching on defense still doesn’t work! Maybe it will in Game 27.

I missed the game. What happened to Sotos? 2 points in 38 minutes. That doesn't seem right.

He wasn’t looking to do anything offensively. Funk came out of the gates scorching hot. We were winning 13-0 and Funk had all 13. Funk proceeded to score 7 more points on 5482 shot attempts for the rest of the game.

Sotos had 6 assists and 2 steals v. 3 TO's. And he only sat for 2 minutes. Also, Spear and Ellis had some quality minutes offensively (especially).

Of all the issues we have seen this season, I do not believe our Defense is a main concern. That is not to say it has been stellar but what makes me the most worried game by game is the inability to score above anything else.

Agree it is strange to complain about defense after a game when you've held a team to 36% shooting and below their season avg. The Navy interchangeable 3-headed guard monster did what they do and made a couple timely shots down the stretch, but I certainly didn't feel like we were getting taken advantage of on the switches like some of the previous games in the losing streak.

I think there is cause for concern at both ends. The bison defense is very much a mixed bag. They are one of the worst teams in the nation in terms of letting the other team get to the foul line. And they rank 302nd in two point field-goal percentage allowed – the worst ranking in Bucknell history in that category. On the other hand, they are a very good defensive rebounding team, have a greatly improved rate of blocking shots, and a good steal pct.
At the offensive end, they have a poor shooting percentage on two points shots and commit way too many turnovers. In total, both the offense and defense are very mediocre.

If you look strictly at efficiency ratings, the defense is at the lower end of mediocre. The offense, on the other hand, qualifies as bad.

Res - curious what efficiency metics you are referring to.
From what I've seen KenPom has had us in the top 2 in his overall defense metric for PL play consistently with the big discrepancy in TO/block rate (good) and foul rate (bad) that 137 mentions above. Fair argument that high fouls carry over to the offensive end and make those struggles worse when starters end up on the bench.
Overall the explanation might just be that PL teams en mass aren't hanging their hat on stopping opps (until we come to town at least).

Shorthanded Bison at Navy 02-14-20 12:10 PM - Post#299890

Some perspective.. This decade you all had ELITE PG-Brown, SG- Thomas-PF Sestina C-Fouland They set the bar high...
The 6-11 kid from SSSA in our area will provide legit rim protector and the kid from Malvern could be Elite scorer... Identify what you need and go get it which they have...
Doesnt make the observations wrong on what has transpired this season, but, they have rarely had the full roster which is likely good for another win or two in league..
Now, if the same were to exist next year, then maybe there is more of a gripe. Just remember you're comparing what is happening this year against as elite a run as there has been in Bucknell history..
