Specifically, might it have made a difference last night? As someone who never played a sport in front of a sizeable audience, I wonder how much it actually helps a home team in a close game in a noisy house like we have.

I was thinking the same thing last night.

We don't win that game vs Harvard a few years ago that sent us to the tourney without that home crowd. Playing in the Palestra can be a real advantage, but when it's empty it's a different story.
