Tough task-beating a team 3x and on their home floor.

Good to see knowling played. was doubled a lot.
passed well.

Clearly had ankle issues still on stop and go. Awkward finishes for him I'll n 2nd half. But he did a nice job off breaking the traps bringing it up floor.

Hope it isn't worse today ...

Expect nerves and shooting woes back to back and in jadwin.
Must overcome.

Princeton threw a lot of unusual defensive looks at Yale this half - lots of switching, Tosan on Poulakidas, etc. Fortunately, Yale managed to adjust a bit, but hopefully the coaching staff comes up with some adjustments.

Also, that last three should never have counted, that should've been an offensive foul. But oh well.

What are the odds that the best FT shooter in the IL misses a crucial FT down the stretch? You could just see Princeton wilting again if he converts. Just brutal.

Lord have mercy, the charge calls. Terrible, terrible one-sided officiating. That doesn't excuse Yale's utter failure of execution late (especially the free throws), but my word.

Of course, heaven forbid any Princeton fan will ever acknowledge the ref favoritism (don't worry, they'll get a rude awakening later this week).

But the missed FT 1 and 1s (Mbeng and Mahoney) were really the story down the stretch. Princeton was clearly out of gas, and made zero FGs during the last 3 minutes of the game. Yale was in the process of coming back TWICE from being down double digits--tying it up and those FTs would have either tied it up or put Yale ahead. Even if you grant that Mbeng's miss wasn't particularly unexpected, the Mahoney miss most certainly was (63 for 67 coming into today from the line).

Oh I don't disagree. The two front-end misses by some great FT shooters were inexcusable, and they might have saved things for Yale had they made them.

However, all I can say is that Jones is lucky he already doesn't have hair, because he'd have torn it out by the end thanks to these officials.

If you take a look at the officiating in the past two Penn-Princeton games at Jadwin, you will come to the same conclusion.

Indeed, what happened this year at the tournament regrettably supports everything the Princeton fans were saying about it all these years. Princeton got all the key calls---and they were egregiously bad calls. It's tough for either loser to bitch because both had chances to win despite the terrible calls but in both games, had it been called fairly, it is possible and even likely Princeton would have lost.

I second P38 on the brutality of the officiating in this afternoon's game and yesterday's second semifinal game.

That north end shooting background claimed critical second half FT misses from Mahoney, Poulakidas, Dingle, and Slajchert this weekend, all of them 80%+ shooters on the year.

Well, what can you do. Princeton did play very well, they were a lot tougher on defense than they used to be, and the decision to guard Poulakidas with Tosan worked a treat for Mitch. I don't really think they have the horses to win a tourney game, but they earned their shot at it.

Yes, the Princeton fans will tell you how brilliant their players are to play such superlative FT defense.

I'm getting a good chuckle out of this string of comments because from where I was sitting today, Tosan was getting bumped hard almost every time he had the ball and those were rarely called.

That was a tough, physical game--like every game Yale plays (that's a compliment).

PS Penn Fans, thank you for reminding me why I've hated your team for 50 years. I'm really sorry that your team had trouble shooting FTs towards your own band and your own fans yesterday. That can be really hard.

And thank you for reminding me why I won't be rooting for your team this coming week. Normally, I am actively rooting for whichever Ivy team advances.

There's a difference between letting things go (which is fine) and being very inconsistent with block/charge calls (which is not). I hope you enjoy your tournament game.

Yeah it must have been tough for all those decades to see Pete fall short of hitting the Holy Grail of playing .500 ball against the Quakers.

Maybe that's why he could never sit down.

Like 99.9% of games, there were many tough calls went both ways - you can't just remember the ones that went against you.

For example, right after that sequence where Kellman got two close 50/50 calls in a row, Langborg got whistled for a laughably awful makeup call that gave Jarvis 2 FTs. If anything, Langborg should have been shooting 2 FTs.

Be classy, folks. Refs were not the reason Yale lost. No one was paid off by a secret cabal of Princeton Illuminati. Gee, how forgetful of them not to steal last year's ILT final!

I'm glad to see the passion back among fans of Ivy league hoops! I will absolutely be rooting for Yale and Penn in the NIT, etc. this week.
