Pechin will be punting for the East squad in the East West Shrine Game today. This caps a season where he has established himself as one of the top few FCS punter in history. From the Bucknell article:

“ Among the most decorated players in Bison football history, Pechin is the Patriot League's 14th consensus All-American, the inaugural FCS Punter of the Year and the 2019 STATS FCS Doris Robinson Award Winner as the FCS's top scholar-athlete. In addition, he was recognized on six All-America teams, became the fourth Patriot League student-athlete to make four All-Patriot League First Teams and became the first Patriot League football player to earn three-straight Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards.

Pechin's career awards haul is extensive. Following the 2019 season alone, he has captured 16 individual awards; over the course of his career, he has made 14 All-America squads.

Pechin put an exclamation mark on his legendary career in 2019, shattering his own school record in punting average by 2.2 yards. His 47.3 punting average led the FCS by 1.3 yards, broke the Patriot League record by 1.3 yards and slotted him seventh in FCS history; in addition, it raised his career average to 44.5, a figure good for fifth in the FCS annals.”

Official time of 4.69.

Alex Pechin clocks the fastest 40-yard dash by a specialist at this year's NFL Combine.

He’ll be in the NFL. Regardless of he’s drafted. Bucknell is putting out some NFL players despite horrible teams. Speaks to the talent of the Patriot League in my mind and guys who sang academics as well as NFL potential.

Read where another former PL punter, Michael Turk, of ASU via Lafayette, set a bench press record of 25 reps at the combine.

Yes he was 2nd team All PL, behind Pechin, in 2017. Pechin outkicked him by about 2.5 yards per punt that year.

Btw, the best performance ever for the Combine bench press -any position - was 51 reps, about 20 years ago.

NFL draft starts tonight and continues through Saturday. Pechin has a shot to be drafted, although his chances aren't great. Very few punters get drafted. Sometimes none.

Fwiw, he is ranked as the top punter in the draft by Mel Kiper and #4 by Todd McShay.

No news, although I expect he will get a tryout from someone. This was definitely the wrong year to be an FCS player, as the cancellation of all the NFL pro days meant those players got very little direct exposure to NFL scouts and officials. Thus the NFL teams opted for the safety of players they already knew from multiple visits to all the FCS programs.

Over 40+ years, there has been an average of 18 FCS players drafted per year. This year there were six - an all-time low. The previous low, in 2003, was 12. Also last year about 200 FCS players got spots as undrafted free agents. This year, as of earlier today, the number was 65. It will rise but is unlikely to even get to 100.

The NFL canceled all 2020 preseason games and cut training camp rosters down from the normal 90 to 80. Hurts the chances of Pechin getting a camp invite.
