I believe he has one more year on his contract. Not the end of the world if he takes a year off. If he comes back to "one of those academic schools" he'll take a cut, so unless he has the opportunity to move up, let GM pay him. GMU apparently already paid him. He reportedly received a $370,000 buyout, which is approximately half of his annual salary. So he is free to do anything he wants without it having any effect on what he gets from GMU.
