Cornell picked up their first commit for the 2021 class yesterday with 6'9" center Ryan Kiachian from Bellarmine Prep in San Jose, CA. He chose Cornell over UC San Diego and Cal Poly.

Highlights here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QIUL1NkW9Y

His Bellarmine team went 23-5 against a very tough schedule in California, and ranked 17th in the state and 53rd in the country at the end of the season

Nice to get some size with the 1st 2021 recruit, as the front court recruiting has seemed less stellar than what we’ve brought in for the backcourt. He seems to have an excellent skill set and basketball IQ, but looks like he’ll need to bulk up a bit.

Great to see Big Red get a player that was actually offered by a good D1 program! Looks like the best recruit of Earl era.

Don’t get me wrong, the kid looks like he has ability, but the D1 offers I saw he had were from Cal Poly and San Diego, both of which finished with single digit wins this past season—so I’m not sure what good D1 program you’re referring to.

My mistake, I read it as San Diego St., not D2 UC San Diego.

University of San Diego is D1, a member of the Mountain West. They just weren’t very good last year, but have had some decent teams over the past few years.

So there's actually 3 Division 1 San Diego schools:

San Diego State is part of the California State University system and in the Mountain West. They've had the most success in revenue sports of the 3 (including going 30-2 in basketball this season), and Kawhi Leonard is an alum.

University of San Diego is a private Catholic school that plays in the West Coast Conference. They're traditionally an average to below average WCC team, well below the tier of Gonzaga and St. Mary's

UC San Diego is part of the UC system and is the largest of the 3, but were D2 in basketball up until this coming season where they will be transitioning to Division 1 in the Big West Conference. They were a D2 powerhouse in recent years. This is the school that offered Kiachian

Ok, I see that now on Verbal Commits. Thanks for the clarification.

I assume he would’ve gotten more offers this coming year if he hadn’t committed to Cornell.

New 2021 recruit, Guy Ragand, Jr., a 6’8” forward with a 7’2” wingspan from Hartford who’s doing a PG year at St. Thomas More School. From his tape he looks strong around the basket, but also seems to have a nice stroke from 3.

His other D1 offers to date were from New Hampshire and Central Connecticut State, so he doesn’t have the pedigree of some of the other Ivy recruits. But he looks like the guy who can be effective in the league.

Cornell's been pretty active on the recruiting trail for 2021, with their name coming up relating to a couple 2021 higher profile recruits this week:

Cyncier Harrison - 5'11 PG from North Carolina with an offer from Wake Forest, lists Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and Cornell as the schools recruiting him the hardest

Brendan Mykalcio - 6'7" wing from NJ doing a prep year at Loomis Chaffee in CT. Offers + interest from Wofford, Davidson, Penn, Cornell, and others

Nazir Williams, a shooting guard from St. Joseph’s HS in Montvale, NJ, has committed to the Big Red. He doesn’t appear to have received other offers, but he has played well against good competition (including Bergen Catholic’s Matt Zona, a Notre Dame freshman) and looks promising on tape. Former HS teammate of Cornell freshman Chris Manon.

Some recent recruiting news: Chris Cain, a 6’9” forward from Pine Bush, NY who’s doing a PG year at Cushing Academy has committed to Cornell. Although Verbal Commits doesn’t show any other offers, during his senior year he may have had offers (or at least strong interest) from BU, Holy Cross, and Manhattan.
