Should be a great match up with Lehigh this weekend. Lehigh leads the NCAA in 3FG per game. Bucknell leads the NCAA in scoring defense. Both come into the game 4-0.

Great comeback win today. They went nearly 9 minutes without scoring between the 1st and 2nd Q and went down 11 at one point. Uncharacteristically poor shooting from 3 and from the FT line. Chipped away in the 3rd and then held Lehigh to 9 points in the 4th to win 68-60. Tessa Brugler was huge inside at the end, grabbing rebounds and making FTs. She finished with 19 reb, 11 pts. Taylor O'Brien had another big game with 21 pts.

Yes, great games for Brugler and O'Brien. Bison outscored LU 47-28 over the last 20:30 after trailing by 11 points late in the first. Only used one sub (Krsul for Ceppi) in the final quarter. As mentioned earlier, LU was undefeated coming into this game, so it was a huge win.

Brugler's career high for rebounds in a game was 11 before this game. She had 19 today! Not sure when was the last time a Bison had 20+ boards, but I think it's been a long time. The only thing I can tell from the Media Guide is that no Bison has ever had more than 19 rebounds in a game in Sojka.

Women were solid. Kept their composure when things got tough, hung tough, chipped their way back, and then took over in the 4th.

Today's game was a game of runs, but Bucknell had the last run to win 80-66. Taylor O'Brien and Abby Kapp had 18 pts each despite only playing 20 and 26 minutes respectively due to foul trouble. Tessa Brugler had another double double with 14 reb, 12 pts. The bench played more today due to the fouls and held their own.

Boston lost to Army leaving the Bison as the only 6-0 team in the league.

One other player who deserves major praise is Autumn Ceppi, who had a career-high 11 assists. I'm not sure when was the last time that a PF/C had that many assists - but I'd guess it's been awhile. I know Mack, Slagus, and DeBoer never came close to 11.

Ceppi also had 9 pts and 6 reb. They mentioned that the last player to have double digit assists was Shelby Romine in 2013.

Yes, Romine had 10 in a game early her senior year. But you might have to go all the way back to Molly Creamer to find someone with more than Ceppi’s 11. And it’s possible that no post player has ever had more than 11.

The game was certainly one of runs. I was dropping in on it in breaks in the men’s game. One check it was a tight game, minutes later Bison were up by 15, then next check the lead was 5 and it went on. This team is fun to watch.

Looking at an online site, I see that Ceppi is the only forward or center in the nation this year with 11 or more assists in a game.

The team's NET rating is 32. They were #22 in last week's mid-major poll, but should move up quite a bit this week.

How in the world does a mid major poll have any relevance this year? This may be the best women’s Bison team ever and I’m not sure how to evaluate them given the lack of OOC.

Brugler was named PL POW. Had double doubles in both games. Unfortunately, due to the idiotic process used by the PL, Taylor O'Brien - who scored around 20 points both games - was not eligible to get honorable mention

Do they prohibit two players from the same team from being honored like that?

Yes. Patriot league rules allow a team to nominate only one player for a weekly award. So if you had two players each score 80 points for the week, you could only nominate one of them.

They should make an exception to the rule if two players have very good weeks. It’s not that hard for the patriot league administrators to trim the list before the voting takes place. It might make them earn part of their salary.

They only moved up to #20 - but deserve to be 3-4 places higher. A lot of the voters don't seem to do much homework.

The PL rep in this poll is HC's new coach Maureen Magarity, who has never faced the Bison as a head coach and likely won't even watch any of their film - since the teams won't meet in the regular season. She replaced Navy's coach, who was fired. The chairman of the committee is Marist's Brian Giorgis, who coached Magarity in college. I presume that is how she ended up as the PL rep before she had ever coached a PL game. (She did serve as an assistant on her Dad's Army staff over a decade ago.) If they aren't going to take a coach from one of the top teams, then I think they should take the longest-tenured coach - which would be LU's Sue Troyan.

Back for round 2. Lehigh has emerged as the 2nd best team in the league after their dominant sweep of Holy Cross and Boston's loss at Army. This will be a tough test after a 2 week layoff. The league's best offense vs. the best defense.

It was a close game for 3 quarters, we only lead by 7. But they opened it up in the 4th to lead by 17 with 2:00 to play. Ended up 76-64.

Women have clinched the top spot in the Central mini-conference. Theoretically LU could still tie for 1st, but the Bison would own the tiebreaker.

The schedule still shows them playing Loyola next weekend instead of making up their games vs Navy. Do you know if this is accurate? It doesn't matter much since both teams are playing poorly this year.

No idea. But I do know that the way things are going, teams won't end up playing all of the same teams they were supposed to play. I think the PL has screwed up in a major way by not making up any games at all during January, when the covid exposure was much less (no students on campus) and when midweek series were easy due to no classes. Now they are going to try to do massive series of makeup games that will have to be juggled with classes. The PL personnel are way over the head when it comes to complicated scheduling issues.

Yes, the scheduling was problematic from the beginning. Better, yet why not start playing conference games in December? Oh well, we're 7-0. Hopefully, there is still a PL and NCAA tournament.

These are the same Patriot League officials who let Boston U's softball team refuse to play the final game - which would have decided the top seed and home field - and just hop on their bus, without permission, and drive home. No punishment and the reward of an undeserved #1 seed. Inept is too kind a word to describe the PL operation.

With 10 seconds left in the 3rd, the Bison trailed by 15 points. Then outscored LU 25-6 until the waning seconds of the game.

Huge win for seeding purposes. Boston U has an incredibly easy schedule and likely will run the table. So Bucknell needs to also run the table to be assured of the #1 seed.

Other than Bucknell and Boston U, the next best teams are Lehigh, Lafayette, and American. Over the course of the season, Bucknell plays those teams ten times. Boston U plays them zero times.

I have never seen a PL women's game where the officiating wasn't horrendous. It's just a question of the degree of horrendousness. It's impossible for the NCAA to find many competent refs who want to do the women's games.

Right LU calling a TO that they did not have (but which apparently showed on the scoreboard) gave the Bison two additional free throws which put the game beyond the reach of even a Griffen type 3. What a tremendous, gutsy win. Yes

Really bad job by either the LU coaches or their Director of Basketball Ops. The latter keeps all the stats and should always know how many TO's are left - regardless of any scoreboard errors. Even though the coaches are across the court from the official table this year, that doesn't prevent the DOBO from checking how many timeouts both teams have left every time a timeout is called. My guess is the DOBO had it right and told Sue Troyan, but that Troyan didn't hear or forgot.

Btw, there are tons of times when the scoreboard has the TO's wrong. I've seen it hundreds of times in Sojka alone, and many more times at other PL gyms. Coaches need to ignore what's one the board and make sure they actually know.

Brugler once again was named PL POW.

* Brugler totaled 32 points and 14 rebounds in two wins over Lehigh this weekend, helping the Bison remain undefeated and clinch the Patriot League Central Division.
* The senior earned her fifth double-double of the season in Sunday's 73-68 comeback victory in Bethlehem, matching her season-high with 19 points and grabbing 10 boards.
* She was 12-for-12 from the foul line over the weekend, including 9-for-9 in the fourth quarter on Sunday to help Bucknell overcome an 18-point deficit.

During the Aaron Roussell era, he brought in a monster class every other year, with a star in each succeeding class:

Arrived 2013 - C. DeBoer, M. McGurk, S. Swart
(J. Klotz next year)
Arrived 2915 - K. Slagus, K. Walker, K. English, M. Mikkelsen, R. Dumiak
(E. Mack next year)
Arrived 2017 - T. Brugler, A. Kapp, A. Johnson, A. Ceppi
(T. O'Brien next year)

It will be a lot tougher for the Bison to reload next year, as they apparently will have only one "big" (C. Krsul) who looks like a rotation player. Will need their two incoming 6-0 wings (Remi Sisselman and Isabella King) to play really well to contend.
