Some good features imo: 1. Start of a series with Penn. Last meeting unbelievably was in 2004. 2. Only one power-conference game. This team isn't ready for top teams. 3. Renewal, after eight years, of a series with one of the closest D1 programs, St. Francis. 4. La Salle returns to Sojka. 5. Continuation of the series with Princeton.

Only four home games stinks. And I agree games against any power conference team could be embarrassing. |

Reader's note: as a casual reader of the board I am finding the persistently negative comments to discourage coming around. The team is the team. I don't expect something happy-clappy but pouting is unattractive. |

Thanks for this post A Western Bison. As one of the more objective posters, what kind of board do you want to participle in if both the positives and the negatives of the club aren’t discussed? This team is likely to really stink this year. I also hope I’m dead wrong, Andre Screen wins POL, and Nathan Davis addresses the rightful criticisms most of us have had of his coaching style. If no one is using profanity or making ad hominem attacks, I don’t understand how making legitimate comments about the state of the program is negative. |

Holy Cross just released their schedule. It makes one really appreciate the Bison schedules, as the HC one is not attractive. Among other things, only two D1 home games, plus two D3 opponents (Regis College and Mt. St. Vincent) that didn't even play last year. Regis College (home) Boston College (away) Quinnipiac (away) Air Force (Daytona Beach tournament) Bethune-Cookman or Bryant (Daytona Beach) Mount St. Vincent (home) New Hampshire (home) CCSU La Salle Fairfield Siena (home) Harvard St. Joseph's

Full league schedule has been released by many schools, but not Bucknell so far. The Bison will open the PL schedule on New Year's Day (Saturday) at Boston U. They also travel to Navy on Friday January 7th and to Loyola on January 10th before hosting Lehigh on January 13th (Thursday). Also they travel to American on January 16th (Sunday). There is also a game, presumably at Sojka, on January 4th against an opponent who has not yet posted their league schedule. Tough opener, Boston U on the road. They figure to be one of the league favorites, with virtually their entire team returning. That includes a couple starters who will be playing their fifth season: 6-10 C Sukhmail Mathon and All-PL 6-5 CG Javonte McCoy. Also All-PL Walter Whyte returns for a 5th year, one of them due to an injury redshirt. He will likely come back next year as well by using the NCAA waiver.

Looking forward to the Princeton, Albany, Mercer, and Penn games. A little over six short weeks, and covid behind us. The team won't be a disaster as some think. Maybe some pleasant surprises. Time to count down the days! |

Bucknell still hasn't released the league schedule - even though they have known it for awhile. But the season ticket form, distributed today, does show all the PL home games: Tues / Jan 4 Army* Thur / Jan 13 Lehigh* Wed / Jan 19 Colgate* Wed / Jan 26 Navy* Sat / Jan 29 Loyola* Wed / Feb 9 American* Sat / Feb 12 Holy Cross* Sat / Feb 19 Lafayette* Sat / Feb 26 Boston*

Reports from first week of practice: Screen got better and stronger. Funk is shooting well and passing at a high level. Rice, Funk and Screen seem to be emerging as the core. Bascoe is a pesky defender and elite shooter. Newton is a high energy rebounder/defender, showing elite offensive rebounding skill. Motta will see time for his balanced skill set. Edmonds is also an all around talent, who has the maturity to be a strong backup PG or starting backcourt mate with Rice. Timmerman is in great shape and competes well with Screen every day. Rhodes has improved his outside shooting, and continues to be a mature player. |

Also was talk about the benefits of only 11 scholarship players. More reps in practice, and the ability to keep everyone happy with PT in games. Regardless of wins and losses this season, there should be more development than in a traditional 13 scholarship season. As we've seen, many times over the last decade all 13 were very good, which was a good problem to have, but still a problem. In this transfer era, keeping the whole roster happy is crucial. Glass half full take, but noteworthy. |

I believe Screen and Timmerman will play minutes together; however, you need Timmerman to come off the bench for Center depth. Jake VDH could emerge if he fulfills his shooting/scoring potential. That remains to be seen, and I will maintain my relatively low expectations. Brock Newton has the potential to have a HUGE impact with his energy and rebounding talent. Remains to be seen if his production in practice will translate on the court when it counts. Motta is the X-Factor in my view. Unless Funk, Rice and Screen get Fouland-Thomas-Brown level production (Unlikely), a 4th player must contribute to putting ball in basket. It just seems to me that whether or not Timmerman, VDH or someone else become scorers, Motta will be seen as our make or break. Just a gut feeling. I think Malachi can quietly impress us this year. He has always been solid, and if he can make wide open jumpers, I think he is a safely net-positive player. I ultimately see this freshman class being VERY STRONG, I just hope they can progress enough this year to help us win March 2022. |

I agree with a lot, but disagree with some. At SG, I don't see Motta in the picture at all. Having watched his video, I don't think he has the skill set to play guard. Also I think we will see times when Bascoe plays PG and Rice moves to SG. Also I don't see JVH figuring into the equation. The Bucknell "small forward" spot is really more of a third guard, and I don't think JVH has the ball-handling skills. But I think he has a good shot to start at PF, which is his more natural position. Rhodes is the other option there - being a better rebounder and defender - but he has shown nothing at all at the offensive end in two years. I doubt Newton will see many minutes at any position this year. As for center, the good news is that it appears Timmerman has dropped some weight. Still he may have to battle Rhodes for some of the backup center minutes.

CBS Sports has released its preseason rankings for all Division 1 teams. They have us at #277, directly below Lipscomb and exactly one ahead of Lehigh. Several PL teams were ranked ahead of us, no surprise. |

Several PL teams were ranked ahead of us, no surprise. Seven teams are ranked ahead of the Bison by CBS. Only LU and HC behind. Having said that, CBS (Norlander) spends almost no time at all trying to evaluate the teams below #100, unless they are well-know P5 teams.

Bucknell: Who's got the Funk? Bucknell's got the Funk. Gotta have that Funk. Andrew Funk (12.9 ppg) is the pivotal returnee for the Bison. Time for a music break! https://youtu.be/l4nOHdUntyM " |

This is just me but if I had the reins I'd start Timmerman and Jake VDH. We could overpower on the inside and have touch on the perimeter. Is there going to be a midnight madness rally of some sort this year? Its gotta be coming up. |

You all probably know this, but the letter accompanying my tickets said, among other things, that while they’re planning for 100 percent capacity, state and local health orders may reduce that number, which could affect your seat location. Also, face masks are mandatory, and there will be no halftime or postgame schmoozing in the Green Room. |

Husky: Yes, it’s in bold type and specifically states that the mask must cover mouth AND nose. 54: I’m assuming the concession stand will be open, because the mask requirement has a single exception for when you’re eating. |
