Never heard of him. Harvard has 4 3-star kids on 247 site and is ranked 51st in nation. but I'm no 365 day follower. |

Sorry, I was looking at 2021; he was in 2020-- still never heard of him. So that means Harvard has a 2-year group of five 3-stars entering as rookies. Not bad. |

Just went to current link and saw roster; you're right 7 newcomers, 5 are 3-star. Only 2 seniors; can see why OOC schedule a little lighter than usual. They still will be contender in March. |

HARVARDDADGRAD, I couldn’t agree with you more on Kirkwood. He is a quiet leader, but I know his teammates (including upperclassmen when he was a freshman) have had tremendous respect for him. More than anyone I can recall, he plays all facets of the game the right way. He’ll need to have a big year to allow this team to succeed, but I fully expect that to happen. He will be a great influence on what amounts to two freshmen classes with plenty of raw potential. |

Harvard's juniors last played as freshmen in 2019. At least 3 of them would have started on at least 4 of other Ivies that season. Not certain of rules, but 5 Harvard seniors-Juniors may be grad school candidates elsewhere in following 2 years. Yale probably same boat. |

OK, love your enthusiasm, but Kirkwood is a decent player, nothing more. Yale is the team that brought back experienced players with much better numbers and Penn's freshmen put up much better numbers than Harvard's (although they played more). But we'll see. All the coaches have to bring together teams that haven't played together in 2 years. |

I'll be surprised if any of the Ivy teams have success in non-league play. Ivy play (where things are at least level) will be a real crapshoot and will depend in large part on who gets the most out of 2 1st year classes. Not much would surprise me this year. |

Regarding Kirkwood, Amaker twice specifically referred to Kirkwood as the best all-around player on the team - a team that included Aiken and Towns (before they got hurt). Kirkwood was Ivy rookie of the year and first team all-Ivy as a sophomore for a reason. As good as some of the Yale returnees are (not to mention some other quality players on other teams), I wouldn't trade him for anyone on other Ivy rosters. We'll see where they all stand after the March 2020 to November 2021 hiatus. |

All around is a very telling statement from a coach. Yes, he played good defense in a team setting, but he's a 6'7" guy playing 30 minutes a game but over 2 years only averaged 4 rebounds and had more turnovers than assists. Not a good foul shooter and an average outside shooter. Not particularly physical. Harvard relied on its seniors last time around. This time it is relying on very highly rated prospects who have played little. That's why I think Amaker will really have to coach up this team to win. They have a lot of talent, though. They are one of 3-4 teams who have to have their freshmen and sophs from 2 years ago really step up. |

I can assure you that when I spoke with Amaker regarding Kirkwood there were no negative connotations. And none of the seniors made 1st team — Kirkwood did. We’ll see, but I expect him to be first team again, not just a “decent†player. He contributes in many ways and will be invaluable in bringing the younger players along. |

I would venture that if Kirkwood didn't foul out Harvard would have beaten NC State in NIT. 19 points in 24 minutes on 8-12 shooting 4 rbs 5 assists Best player on the court as a freshman. |

Agree with your underlying statement. We need to see who plays well together after a year off. Yale certainly has an edge with returning experienced players and Penn and Brown might as well. Brendan Barry is a huge plus for Dartmouth. Princeton has some important returnees. Cornell and Columbia are 'rebuilding'? No idea what we'll see from Harvard, but as I've stated before, the serniors (Kirkwood, Ledlum, Forbes) are high usage so that's a plus. Definitely going to be ugly early, then interesting in league play. |
