Per Stadium (Goodman), the Bison are scheduled to scrimmage George Washington tomorrow and then Monmouth in two weeks. The game tomorrow is one of the earliest scrimmages being played by any team. (There is only one that is earlier.) GWU is supposed to be second division in the A10, while Monmouth is generally picked for top four in the MAAC. The full PL schedule: American – 10/23 at Morgan State; 10/30 vs. Old Dominion Army – 10/24 vs. Cornell; 10/30 vs. Dartmouth Boston University – 10/23 vs. Yale; 10/30 at UMass Bucknell – 10/16 vs. George Washington; 10/30 at Monmouth Colgate – 10/23 vs. Buffalo; 10/30 vs. Princeton at neutral Holy Cross – 10/23 at UMass; 10/30 at Brown Lafayette – 10/23 vs. Manhattan; 10/30 vs. Mount St. Mary’s Lehigh – 10/23 at Binghamton; 10/30 at Drexel Loyola Maryland – 10/22 at UMBC Navy – 10/23 vs. VMI; 10/31 at Delaware Note: Loyola only has one scrimmage because they opted to also play an exhibition game vs a non-D1 team, in this case Johns Hopkins on November 1st.

Got a little bit of feedback about yesterday’s scrimmage with George Washington. They played halves, and I got information about the first 20 minute half and the majority of the second half. They may have played more than that as well. The Bison starting lineup in the first half was Screen, Rhodes, Motta, Funk, and Rice. For the second half, Rhodes was replaced at power forward by Van der Heijden, and Motta was replaced by Elvin Edmonds. Adoh and Bascoe also saw some minutes. In the first half, the Bison quickly fell behind by 12 but gradually narrowed the margin and ended up losing it by two points. In the second half, they fell behind by 15 points within four minutes and then closed the margin a bit after that. One big problem in both haves was that they shot under 10% from three point range. George Washington didn’t shoot particularly well either. Most of the offense was inside baskets by Screen, a slimmer Timmerman, and Rhodes.

I feel really silly but I hadn’t processed the fact Walter Ellis transferred. Long year ahead unless the freshmen are ready to contribute immediately. |

Ellis transferred, Miles Latimer transferred, and Deuce Turner transferred. That’s three players who would’ve been in the top six this year. The freshmen in their first year will not begin to make up for what was lost.

Ellis is joining a deep roster at Grand Canyon University with two transfers from Arizona as well. He will fight for minutes there rather than being a first option here. |

Considering Ellis graduated, it’s not like he had an viable option to stay at Bucknell. Other than watching quite a few losses, I’m not sure what to make of this years team. I suppose look for positive signs that things aren’t as bad as they seem. |

He accelerated his course load to enable him to transfer.

Ellis was a junior last year, correct? So he took extra classes to graduate early and then transferred out? Bizarre. We should have pursued some scoring power through the transfer portal as points will be a challenge this year. |

So ok, here it is the day before the start of the new basketball season, and the number one topic on the Bucknell basketball message board is the women’s soccer team. Not a word to be found about the game with NC State or for that matter the common link between the two programs, Jimmy V. Things have sure changed around here. No disrespect to the aforementioned women’s soccer team that will take on Rutgers. |
