Yale returns to the friendly confines after a long stretch on the road to take on the preseason America East favorites. Stony Brook has struggled a fair bit this year, but they're a talented team. It'll be interesting to see how the Bulldogs move forward after the up-and-down start to the year.

EJ Jarvis made his season debut in Ft. Myers, and he looked pretty good in his limited minutes. How he plays will be another thread to follow in this game.

Yale has cut a 22 point deficit to 8, but with under 8 minutes to play they are running out of time.

7 point game with 5:06 left. Stony Brook calls time as they were in danger of not getting the ball across half court in time.

Looks like Yale will now double any balls inside to big men.

After a 3 by the Stony Brook big man made it a 12 point lead, Yale comes roaring back with a slash to the hoop plus a 3 and 1 of 2 from the line.

6 point game with under 2 to go.

Stony Brook hits 2 FTs to go up 8.

Lots of offensive rebounds on the other end (a theme for this half), but no dice.

Stony Brook fouled with 1:12 to play, shooting 2.

SB misses both FTs, then at the other end a drive leads to a Cotton 3.

5 point game with a minute to go.

Yale tries to full court press, then trap over the half court line. Finally, Cotton fouls with 49 seconds to go.

SB makes 2 FTs, then a Yale turnover and foul and this one looks like it's almost over with 32 seconds left.

Mmph, a very inexperienced-team way to lose. Looked completely lost until something like the 8-minute mark, then looked like the better team thereafter. Credit too to Stony Brook for hitting tough shots down the stretch to keep Yale at arms length. Had they not, Yale might've pulled it out.

There's something to be said for cutting a 22 point deficit all the way down to 4 by the end, I suppose. I'm relieved by the fact that Yale isn't the only team to be stumbling out of the gate, as none of the other purported favorites have exactly been covering themselves in glory either.
