It all comes down to this. Two teams in top form taking each other on for forty minutes, and the winner goes dancing. It's interesting how opposite the styles these two teams play are: Yale makes its hay on defense, and plays enough offense to get by (though they've shown some flashes of better here and there), whereas Princeton makes hay on offense, and plays just enough defense to get by. Should be a good one.

i am concerned abt the game tmrw. I really felt we would have developed a more rounded offensive machine from mid season to today.
there were signs but the amount that these kids are deferring to swain and his ball dominance puts a lot of pressure on what should be a swing offense predicated on matchups.
Conversely princeton just has more firepower. I called this after the first game. We haven’t developed on offense. They have improved on defense since then.
Long story short it will take a Herculean effort on defense.
This is code for they must miss shots. And we must board said misses.
This is still a good accomplishment for James and these kids. It was a flawed team on offense and despite the talent I see it hasn’t all emerged the way envisioned at least on offense. Yet

Congrats.

Well earned win.

Good luck in the NCAAs.

Mandatory free throw practice this week! No reason it should have gotten as close as it did there in the end.

Well defense beat the misssd fts and 3.5 second calls

Bez mbeng as noted long ago is a problem in this league. He is too big and too athletic and when he gets a jump shot will be a terror.
He defended a freaking top 125 recruit who is a senior. Nuts

17ppg in the dc catholic league without a consistent jumper translates. flaws and all that’s a great job by James and Matt. Awesome

Excellent job by Yale, playing physically and getting key plays by lots of guys on both ends. Swain's circus act is hard to defend.

I do recommend practicing getting the ball inbounds before the NCAAs.

Yale has better athletes and it showed today. Both teams were clearly tired but the Bulldogs had more left in the tank.

Princeton's last minute flurry was negated by a massive brain fart. But either way, Yale deserved to win today.

The inbounds play particularly against a press was a problem all year. It stems from foul shooting I think and a culture of deferring too much to swain.
they shoot well as a team but that’s distorted by the volume of swain and gabiddon.
Anyway we are flawed but mbeng is the most talented kid we have ever had imho. But I don’t think he is going to get swains jumper bf the first round.
And our center played wing at pace academy in AA ga ball. So the matchups are rough

James just said as much
Not my most talented team. It wasn’t
Kelly isn’t a post player. He isn’t
be nice if basa ama got some time. He will be needed to bang against the big boys and has huge potential.
Best coaching job for James. Undebatable

Definitely well coached and well disciplined.

They did a masterful job of staying within themselves in terms of setting the pace and tempo for the first 60% or so of the game.

The pace turned in Princeton’s favor after that point. Some of this was unforced on Yale’s end—starting putting up shots much earlier in the shot clock. That opened the game up and overall benefited Princeton’s style of play. They still won but will need to be more disciplined than that to have a chance of an upset this week.

Very tough assignment getting Purdue. That loss today probably got them a 3 seed instead of something higher.

Got to really, really slow it down.

Good luck against their behemoth center.

What's really interesting here is that all of the 14 and 15 seeds are ranked in KP anywhere from 118 to 147 (Yale), and Yale got a 14 seed.

So the good news is that perhaps Yale got a slight bump in seeding,

But the bad news is that it got Purdue, which I have to believe would have been a 2 had it won today.

jaiden Ivey and Williams are tough on Purdue. Then there’s Goliath. But the real problem is they are well coached and won’t take yale lightly

Plus, the Big 10 is very, very deep this year--arguably as deep as they've ever been. Purdue is battle tested.

Purdue destroyed fsu when the latter had a healthy squad. u probably do something extreme to battle them. That means spread them out and try to put them on skates.
But they tried that on seton hall and that didn’t go so well bc they cldnt throw it in the ocean

Purdue has beaten 10 teams going to the tourney this year (11 if you count Bellarmine).

It has 7 losses on the year. All in the Big 10 and all to teams going dancing.
