Crimson score only 3 points in first 7.5 minutes on 1-14 shooting but still lead by 16 (33-17) at the half. Some awful offense and woeful shooting from both squads. Holy Cross is apparently missing it top scorer and started a real shot blocker (who doesn’t usually play much according to the HC announcers). Result is Crimson can’t seem to finish around the basket. By missing 1 of first 11 three’s that was a disastrous combination. Eventually, we started making one more pass, scoring in transition, and hit our last 3 three’s. Best result appears to be that Amaker is spreading around the minutes. Crimson to start the second half in the midst of a 30-10 run. |

Crimson rise to KP#178, although we really didn’t play well in the blowout of a bad Holy Cross squad. Ugly game. Maybe hosting #127 UMass on Friday will divulge what we really are. If not, contests against Howard and Tufts probably won’t provide any insights, leaving games at #17 UC Irvine and then #17 Kansas and low ranked Maine before we open at Princeton. Are we still establishing an identity? Or are we able to morph to best counter our opponents? We have a month to figure it out. Likely, we’ll finish OOC at 9-5, anything better will be very positive. I hope we can just avoid injuries. We lost Ledlum last year in the final minute against Howard, just prior to the start of league play. |

We still have our offense disappear for long stretches. We can get away with it against Holy Cross and we barely got away with it against Siena and Loyola. Burned us against Fordham and it's something we have to straighten out for league play. We aren't good enough to go 6 minutes without scoring in the league. |

Disappointing win to be sure. Hemmings had a decent game, but when he goes to the line I long for the days of Zena at the line. Team has been terrible at the FT line and from 3. We really need someone to step it up from 3 and Sakota has been pretty quiet over the last 5 games and Lesmond has a year and a half of below par shooting percentage from 3. We definitely need one of those two to hit with some consistency. Right now too many of the 3s are coming from Silverman (whose more valuable contributions come from his slashing through the lane. Just hoping Okpara and Ajogbor improve to a level that their physical attributes suggest they should be able to achieve. Ledlum and Okpara really should be able to become a tough one-two punch. As noted above, I expect Friday will tell us a lot. |

To add to our concerns, I'd add that when opposition has strong rim protection that Ajogbor, Okpara, Ledlum and Silverstein have trouble getting good shots and thus scoring. Same for Tretout and Sakota who can't finish at the backet. Last night HC's Coulibaly - a 6'9" and 248 lb defender - was largely the reason for our poor start. We settled for 3's and Ledlum and Okpara couldn't finish at the rim. Thus, we missed 13 of our first 14 shots. Only when we started making extra passes and hitting 3's did we score. Also, we finished with 53 rebounds, including 22 offensive rebounds! We shot under 50%, despite scoring a lot on turnovers (10 steals!) and breakouts. 60% FT shooting won't cut it. I agree with the above basketball acamadicians. Once Ivy defenses tighten, if we can't shoot 3's and FT's we'll be vulnerable. Why is Nelson not shooting more often. He's the only 3 point shooter over 40% on a team shooting under 30% (28.4%). After a 3 for 5 night, Sakota is now shooting 37.5%, otherwise, we're a mess, including Ledlum at 31%, Okpara at 23%, Silverstein at 24%, Tretout at 29% and Lesmond at 23%. What still befuddles me is Wojcik is still by far the worst 3 point shooter on the team - 5 for 36 so 14% in his Harvard career. |
