CBS Sports lists their top 5 candidates to coach the Hawks: 5. Charles Lee Lee is another Budenholzer disciple, and he's still working with his mentor in Milwaukee. Unlike our first four candidates, he has no head-coaching record to fall back on. That won't be the case for long. Lee has been among the most highly regarded assistants in basketball for several years now, and whether it's Atlanta or somebody else, he is going to get a head-coaching job soon. A first-time head coach can be both a blessing and a curse. Udoka's season in Boston is a perfect example of that. He needed a few months to adjust to the top job, but once he did, he had no bad habits or old biases to fall back on. Does Atlanta want to wait for a first-timer to figure it out? The Hawks might not have time for that. Dejounte Murray is a free agent in 2024, and because of the current CBA, he is virtually unextendable. If the Hawks don't figure things out quickly, they might lose him for nothing next summer. That's going to make this job even more difficult for whoever lands it. That coach won't just have to appease Young, but Murray as well.

The Bucks fired Mike Budenholzer today after losing early in playoffs…I know he’s a finalist for the Detroit job, but wonder if that is bad news for Charles getting a HC job. Or an assistant job. |

"Sources: The Detroit Pistons, including owner Tom Gores, will hold meetings this week with the finalists for their open head coaching job: - Former UConn and Overtime Elite coach Kevin Ollie - Pelicans assistant Jarron Collins - Bucks associate head coach Charles Lee"

CBS Sports on Milwaukee Coaching Search: Charles Lee Don't worry, we'll get to the big names momentarily. For now, we have to start with the Budenholzer tree, which has become one of the most common sources of NBA head coaches in recent years. Quin Snyder and Taylor Jenkins both built perennial winners after leaving Budenholzer, and Darvin Ham has the Los Angeles Lakers competing for a championship in his first year as a head coach. With that in mind, the Bucks might keep an open mind when it comes to hiring a first-year coach, and there's a potential fit already on their bench. Charles Lee, Budenholzer's associate head coach, has interviewed for several jobs in recent years and is currently in the running to take over the Detroit Pistons. Just 38 years old, Lee would be one of the NBA's youngest head coaches, but that doesn't mean he lacks experience. He's worked for Budenholzer since 2014 and could keep the bulk of his system in place while making the few necessary tweaks the Bucks would need to make it back over the hump. That approach has proven to be a viable formula in the past. It worked out pretty well for the next candidate on this list.

The Sixers should hire him. Yes, Hire this guy and pay him well. He's waited longer than a lady waiting to get married in a Jane Austen novel, let's get this done. I have no doubt he will be a successful head coach in the NBA, and he won't even need a marquee player to carry him, just some Bucknellian magic and coaching acumen. Let's get this ball rolling. |

There was a Philadelphia Inquirer poll about who should be the next Sixers coach. Of course, I voted for Charles Lee, but I'm sorry to say that he got less than 0.5% of the votes.

ESPN and others are reporting the Bucks have a short list of Kenny Atkinson, Adrian Griffin and Nick Nurse, so it seems like Charles won't be getting promoted in Milwaukee. |

Appears as though Charles will have to wait at least another year to be a HC. I haven’t read anything about assistant coaching possibilities, either, although I have to think he finds a job. |
