Time for a new thread for a new season…

Key players returning: Abbey, Kitty, Paige Lauder, & Perri Page
Key players departing: KD, Jaida, & Hannah Pratt
Newcomers: Two transfers, two players from Spain’s national team, Kitty’s sister, and three others who all look promising

The full schedule has not been released, but here are some games listed on the ESPN app and/or @CULionsWBB Twitter account.

11/14 vs Duke at Levien
11/16 vs Towson at Levien
11/20 vs Georgia in the Bahamas
11/22 vs Florida in the Bahamas
12/31 vs Pacific in Stockton, CA

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that at least one other SF Bay Area opponent is being lined up for a game in late December… perhaps Stanford, Cal, St Mary’s, Santa Clara or USF. Stay tuned.

The Lions are 2-4 halfway through the non-conference season. The next 5 are at home... Northeastern on Saturday followed by Providence, Villanova, Memphis, and Wagner. Then they visit the SF Bay Area in late December (San Francisco and Pacific).

A 5-2 record to close out the year is a realistic expectation, but 6+ wins is not out of the question. Villanova will likely be the toughest test before the Ivy season begins.

Hsu now sits at 299 career 3-pointers. Only two Ivy players have more... both from Cornell... Mike Morgan (334) and Ryan Wittman (377).

The Lions bounced back nicely after that crushing loss vs Florida and take a 7-game win streak into league play tomorrow at Levien vs Penn.

Downtown Abbey now has 1,800 career points... 19 away from cracking the Top 10 in women's Ivy history.

14 games + the IL tournament to go, at 20 ppg, she should get to 2100 and about 3rd on the all-time list.

JDP posted current win probabilities for Columbia (per Her Hoop Stats website) in each Ivy game this upcoming season. I’ll copy it here shortly… the Lions expected win total this Ivy season is about 11.6.

I saw no sign of Noa Comesana and Mary Lobon on the bench this weekend. And Noa is no longer listed on the roster on Columbia's website. The Lions had only 11 players available for today's game vs Dartmouth... Sciolla and Montes were on the bench, but did not appear to be in uniform. I saw Montes on crutches recently, but don't know the status of Sciolla or Lobon.

With the loss of Comesana and the regression of Lauder, this likely opens the door for Blau Tor to get more minutes during the 2nd half of the Ivy season... I see a lot of potential in the freshman. She has excellent footwork for her size and seems to have a high basketball IQ, often in good position to grab a rebound. And she showed off a nice post move in the 4th quarter today.

Raifu has clearly displaced Comesana. I don't know what's happened with the other roster moves, but we should have enough players the rest of the way (and will need to reload more than perhaps we originally thought in the next recruiting cycle).

19-1

Columbia’s record since the loss to Florida at the buzzer the day before Thanksgiving. I had high expectations for this team this season and they have exceeded them.

First year Riley Weiss on the Columbia Women's Team scored 212 points in the aggregate this season, which about tripled the entire output of the Columbia Men's first year class--Arop Arop and Romanelli. No wonder Engles remaining supporters are so excited about his possible return for another year at Columbia.

Riley Weiss will double her ppg next year, when she is called on to replace Abby's production.

But I don't know why everyone is so down on Arop Arop. We often lament that we can't get the recruits that Harvard and Princeton pursue, and yet when we do get one, people mock Engles because Arop sat on the bench. Arop is definitely a project--he'll have to do what Thompson did this past summer (add ten lbs in the weight room), but he's graceful, speedy, and skilled. In a year or two, he will be a major contributor, and we will be lucky to have him.
