Very good chance he leaves, seems like it's 50-50.

I think the value of both a Harvard degree and having the entire offense revolve around him are pretty big pros, but passing up hundreds of thousands of dollars right now is a substantial con. Will obviously depend on just how big an offer he can get, and also how much worse that school's academics are. I'm assuming he'd want something like a Georgetown or Northwestern if he was going to leave.

You know G-Town will match the St John's money. Not too sure about Northwestern

Georgetown definitely has the money; they saved up a lot of their NIL budget last year to go on a spending spree this year. From what I've seen, though, there's supposed to be more mutual interest between them and Michigan pg Dug McDaniel, another DC kid, than with Mack. They wouldn't bring in more than one pg, too many needs across the roster.

Nobody seemed to care when Dartmouth was continually losing its best players to transfers.

Rumor is that Mack visited Georgetown this past weekend. Could see him commit there very soon.

Rumors swirling about Cooley's supposed resignation from Georgetown. Wonder how that affects things.

Pretty sure those rumors are just the result of bitter Providence fans trolling on Twitter, but could still hold things up if Mack really was about to commit.

Georgetown has a lot going for it on paper, but the basketball part of the equation is still a big question mark. Cooley isn't a great offensive coach himself, with the difference being that the ball wouldn't be in Mack's hands quite as much. And I'm not sure anyone they're trying to bring in would do much to help their catastrophically bad KP 322 defense from last year. It is true that they have a top 20 class of freshmen coming in, but not clear how much those guys will be ready to contribute in Year 1 in a tough Big East. All of which is to say that there's going to be a ton of pressure on whichever transfers they do bring in to drastically turn around what was a non-competitive team, playing in a moribund stadium, for a coach who could very well get fired if they aren't at least respectable next year. I could understand why someone would be hesitant about signing up for that, even if all the non-basketball stuff (money, playing in front of their family, still-good academics) was compelling.

Absent a scandal we know nothing about, it's almost impossible to believe he would be forced out only 1 year after inheriting a total disaster.

Yes, Cooley inherited a disaster, but with the way big schools can turn over their entire rosters in a single offseason thanks to the transfer portal, there's a reasonable expectation that rebuilds shouldn't take as long anymore. They can even happen overnight. Look at St. John's: they should have made the tournament this year after Pitino brought in a mostly new team with Dingle and Ledlum.

The point is: Cooley didn't improve at all in Year 1, selling the idea that there'd be a massive jump in Year 2. If there isn't, if Georgetown only wins 5 or 6 Big East games, the question is going to be why they're paying him the third-most money in the country to produce barely better results than Ewing did, when their rivals are turning things around much quicker. They could very well decide to cut their losses at that point, although I agree that it's more likely they'd give him at least one more year.

Supposedly down to Georgetown (most likely the high bidder) or Duke for Mack.

Syracuse, where one of his high school teammates is going, is trying to get involved, as are Northwestern and Vanderbilt. Basically all the usual suspects of high academic major conference teams.

Plot twist: Mack is now supposedly down to Georgetown, Texas, and UVA. Taking turns visiting them this weekend.

Georgetown is offering him probably the most money, but it's a big rebuild there. Texas and UVA are much better bets to make the tourney next year. Not sure what happened with Duke, Northwestern, and Vanderbilt.

Word on the UVA Board is that Georgetown offered Mack between $1 million and $750,000.

The two things that aren't clear from those rumors:

1) Would that be 750k to a million per year, or for three years?

2) Mack is supposedly asking for whatever money he gets upfront. So say he agrees to a three year, 750k deal and then decides to transfer again next year. Would he get to walk away with all 750k to a million? NIL contracts are so opaque, and I've seen NIL attorneys complain about how unenforceable they are.

As expected, Mack has officially committed to Georgetown. They'd better hope he's not the 25% three-point shooter he was in Ivy play...

And all this after a stirring 5-9 '23-24 campaign. Amaker has to be looking elsewhere.

It's May 1st, not April 1st.

Although some rabbis are probably yelling mayday right about now.
