Mountaineers -2.5 according to ESPNBET.

Tigers will have to take care of the ball against WVU's ferocious pressure.

Berube's first loss as Tiger skipper was in 2019 in OT at Iowa. The only players who played in that game still playing are Ellie Mitchell and Kate Martin.

Up 14-11 after the first. Ellie hits a shot right at the buzzer but a split second too late to count. Tigers dominating on the glass so far.

Good D and excellent rebounding but shooting under 40% is going to hurt you.

26-24 at the half, missing a lot of good looks, should be up by more

Up 26-24 at the half. WVU hits a three-pointer right at the buzzer which hurts but the Tigers handling pressure very well and winning the boards 23-12.

Belker 0-3 from 3 and Chea 0-1. Hope they heat up in the second half, along with St. Rose. WVA is beatable, their bigs aren't doing much. We need to keep defending and rebounding and improve the field goal percentage. And make free throws.

Mountainers turn up the pressure and the Tigers come apart. WVU scores 12 straight points to go up by 7. Kaitlyn with a couple of terrible turnovers that turn into fast break points. Ouch.

Yea, getting rattled. I think they need to attack the basket inside, Chen, Chea, Belker, draw fouls.

WV is scrappy as hell and refs letting them be very physical. Ellie gets called on a very dubious pick and has to leave with 3 fouls. Not good.

Oooof. 12 turnovers in the 3rd quarter after 5 the entire first half. WVU really turned up the heat. Down 42-33 with 10 minutes to play.

Tigers showing a little more fire but the WVU pressure is relentless and we're having trouble just getting shots off. Down 8 with 4:20 to play.

Tough way to end the season. To win a game like this the Tigers needed to shoot better and keep a lid on Quinerly, who was spectacular, and not implode the way they did in 3Q. Princeton actually outscored WV in the other quarters but it was not their day.

Thanks to Kaitlyn, Ellie and Chet, they left a legacy of success and tenacity and I will miss watching them play!

Fabulous careers, not sure how we replace them. Will look forward to seeing them play next year. We know the Mitchell family and they are justifiably proud.

After losing Cunningham, Stone and Connolly, I wasn't sure they could fill those shoes and maintain the prior level of success. But Kaitlyn, Ellie and Chet really shone all season and led the newcomers to great success, maybe even better than last season. Kudos to them.

At Ivy Madness I chatted with a Harvard guy who knows (and maybe coached?) Kaitlyn and knows her family. While I'm still guessing she'll play her final year at USC or UCLA, he said she may be leaning toward playing her final year at Stanford, having to do with her choice of medical school - though I imagine it would be difficult to do a first year of med school while playing basketball in the ACC. Maybe some more pre-med courses. We'll see.

Tough to replace for sure. Carla lost Alarie when she was POY and won Ivy title the next year. She lost Meyers when she was POY and won the title the next year when Chen was POY. So it can be done. Scoring will not be a problem next year but rebounding and defense may be. I have total faith in Carla.
Don't quite see the point in the "mean streets " comment.

Exactly. And, I'm from the other side of the tracks in PG county.

I guess ultimately the humor is that she is such a relentless rebounder, which is contrary to Coach Carril's theory on rebounding and number of garages.

We had no answer for the high pick for Quinerly. I did not see the entire game, but in the portions I watched, we never doubled her off the pick. She just went one on one down the right side of the lane.

Hi Tiger69,

I suspect you have little cause of worry - especially with a high quality coach that spent 17 years at a D3 school. The Princeton job (men's and women's) is a very good job. Perhaps it does not pay as well as a Power 5 school, but I think it is one many mid major coaches and Power 5 assistant coaches and even some Power 5 head coaches would desire.

What do Tiger fans think - over the last five seasons is there a material difference in the success of the Princeton or UNC programs. The Tar Heals have 5 NCAA wins (1 sweet 16) vs. 2 for the Tigers. Perhaps more money, a better schedule, no academic index, and NIL vs. need based aid - but are the NCAA NET achievements that different? Princeton was a 34 this year, UNC was 37.

What are the upgrade schools for Carla - UConn for sure, perhaps Stanford when Tara VanDerveer retires (to reconnect with Henderson I suspect if Carla's upgrade schools go in different directions, and if Berube believes she has maxed out the potential of the Princeton program, then any competitive coach would look for a place with a higher upside and a large retirement nest egg. But even then not likely, and likely that larger list is less than 20 schools.

Do you have a different view / worry. I expect Berube will be around for a longtime (ex UConn move). I am still waiting for Amaker, Henderson & Jones to leave for greener pastures.

Mitchell went to a Catholic school (Visitation, which has sent several others PU's way). While the socioeconomic traits can vary, I always thought Catholic leagues generally tend to produce the kind of player Carril sought. For example, probably the best HS league in the country is the WCAC in the DMV (which includes traditional powers DeMatha, Gonzaga, and St. Johns, but actually the No.1 team in Post rankings is lesser known Paul VI).

One big advantage UNC has in having more wins and a sweet 16 is that they obviously get better seeds. That and Carlie was their PG when they went to the sweet 16.

Wow, the halftime score of the Iowa-West Virginia game is exactly the same as it was in the Princeton-West Virginia - WVA trailing by 2, 26-24. The third quarter was a disaster for us, Iowa had better be prepared for this third quarter, or they may actually get sent packing early.

Very little scoring tonight in the 2nd quarter.

Iowa being somewhat careless with their passes.

It has been a very physical game--refs have let them play for the most part.

3rd quarter was fine, first 4-5 minutes of the 4th quarter were almost their undoing.

Extremely physical. Had the game gone another minute or so, probably 5 different WV players would have ended up fouling out.

I don't think there were any Iowa transition baskets. Game was completely played at WV's pace. Stuelke still seems like she's ill (she missed the previous game), got her points but was not a particularly effective scorer inside. Otherwise Clark would have been in double digits for assists once again.

As a Princeton fan I will admit it's probably sour grapes, but WVA was badly underseeded as a #8 seed, should have been a 5 or 6 seed. They're very good.

I didn't see the Princeton game, but Iowa was basically giving WV open three point shots all game long. WV made enough of them in key spots to stay in this one.

She had a typical Clark game (which is Superwoman quality) except for the assist category but, as mentioned, Stuelke wasn't particularly strong at converting excellent passes from Clark that she received down low. She did get to the line a bunch of times, but this was not reflected in the Clark stats.
