Jack Rohan was loved and respected by his players and everyone else who knew him. He had an extraordinary feel for the game of basketball that enabled him to see things quickly that others simply missed. Jack was a coaching prodigy whose skills became evident very early in his career when had coached the Columbia Freshman Basketball Team to great success. The story that has been handed down for years is that everyone expected Jack to be appointed as Columbia's new head basketball coach, but inasmuch as he was so young that an administrative decision was made to appoint an older more experienced coach as Columbia's head basketball coach. The person selected turned out to be a bust and Jack was finally appointed as Columbia's head coach. What followed were the glory years of Columbia Basketball in the sixties.
