The G League is also experimenting with a new way of handling foul shots to speed up the game. If you get fouled on a 3 you shoot 1 shot worth 3 pts, fouled on a 2 one shot worth 2 pts, etc. Over a large enough sample the expected value of a trip to the line should work out the same, but in a game setting could introduce some variance. They do revert to the traditional approach at the end of the game.

Interesting. I didn't know that. The G League first started talking about making this change about seven years ago. They estimated it would eliminate five minutes of dead time from a game. One stat, which doesn't surprise me, is this:

"the D-League brandished stats that showed that players convert the second of a pair of free throws at a better rate than the first (for D-Leaguers, 71.1 percent vs. 76.3 percent; for NBA players, 73.2 percent vs. 77.7 percent). The trend holds for three-shot trips, as well, as players get progressively more proficient from the first to third attempts."
