Well, that was frustrating.
The one thing that that Iona team does poorly is shoot, so of course they shot over 45% from 3 on the night. Yale seemed to figure out the right adjustments to make as the night wore on, but the execution was just not there consistently enough.
I really noticed the difference that Basa-Ama made in there - with a shot-blocking big in the lineup, Iona got hesitant around the rim and what had been layups in the first half turned into turnovers or blocked shots in the second.
Worthy of note that Azar had a literal career night tonight - a career high 34 points, including seven made threes. Against one of the best defenses in the country, to boot. I believe he also tied the Yale career made-3s mark too, but don't quote me on that.
At some point, you'd like to think that this team will put together a forty-minute performance. They've shown flashes of what they can be, but it hasn't been enough against a meat grinder of a schedule so far this year.
