Pierce got called early for two questionable fouls. In general the refs weren’t “letting them play.” The only coaching issue that recurs is playing without ball pressure against teams that are big inside and having success running their stuff. The double-teams of primary scorers or inside mismatches are fine, but sometimes you face a team whose offensive weaknesses are ball-handling and foul shooting, and you have to exploit that instead, even if it makes rebounding harder and you give up a few open shots.
All that said, the players lost the game. Brown was fantastic on both ends and the Tigers didn’t make shots, with Pierce having perhaps his worst game overall at PU and Lee being a non-factor.
