Bison 137 thanks for letting me know this. After first, I couldn't imagine how they maintain a first and second division in a country that small. Such a large percentage of people live in either Reykjavik or Kopavogur that I can't believe they can maintain competitive leagues.
However I talked to my friend Siggi who lives in Kopavogur and he said in the winter months, basketball is popular because of the limited amount of daylight.
I know swimming is also a passion there because all of their public pools are heated by geothermal energy. The pools in every town are community gathering places year round.
