In response to Doktore K
I fully agree with leveling the playing field, but unfortunately it would be very difficult to get any Bucknell athletes to come back for a fifth year as things stand now. Colgate players come back because the team is very good and they have a very good coach. But Bucknell players don’t have those reasons. I think it’s very doubtful Andrew Funk would’ve come back for a fifth year to play for ND as opposed to getting an MBA at PSU. The one thing that could be a game changer is the proposed Bucknell MBA program, which would give them a degree that lots of athletes would want to get. Hopefully that will become a reality within a couple of years.
Note that Boston University, Lehigh, American, and Loyola all have extensive graduate programs that permit them to hold onto athletes who have a year of eligibility left when they graduate.
