Twitter update on Pat's condition:
As we highlighted yesterday, @synapticure offers Pat a great deal of help and guidance as he and his care team navigate through the daily challenges that ALS presents. But what does a day look like for Pat currently?
Unfortunately Pat is no longer able to ingest food orally. A large portion of his diet has been 10 daily cartons of Kate Farms supplements, which he consumes through a feeding tube located in his abdomen. Along with the feeding tube he utilizes a cough assist machine, suction machine and a noninvasive BiPap to assist with his breathing a majority of the day.
Fatigue is constant and even some of the simplest tasks requires assistance, as he has lost function in his arms and hands. Communicating has become increasingly difficult as Pat’s voice gets weaker; he often slurs his words.
Each day, Pat generally has at least one appointment on his schedule (OT, PT, respiratory therapy, etc), and often multiple. He takes daily doses of medications such as Radicava, Relyvrio and Riluzole aimed at slowing the progression of his disease, as well as medications that aim to assist with his physical and mental health. All the while he has a professional caregiver with him, 24-7.
We will continue to #PunchBack4Pat.
