GOOD NEWS/SAD NEWS
Recruiting - good news coming
Staff - Please extend your condolences to Coach Davis on the passing of his Dad last week. Not widely publicized as both are pretty private individuals. That said, the beauty of Bucknell is community and so our support and warmth is difficult not to extend.

A Bison coach was at the Archbishop Wood open gym today. Wood, of course, is Andrew Funk's alma mater. They may have been looking at 6-0 junior PG Jaylen Stinson, who already has offers from Rider, Siena, Iona, Stony Brook, St. Peter's, Bing, and a few others. Also possibly scouting junior 6-5 SF Daeshon Shepherd, who was 2nd team all-state as a soph. He already has offers from GWU, La Salle, Temple, St. Bona, Towson, Hofstra, Siena, and a couple others.

We could certainly use a true PG in the 2021 class!

- Poteat , Mylyjael 6-9 C (NC) ; BUCKNELL OFFER Jun-2019 > Northeastern, Boston, American, Lehigh, Rice, Wofford, Dartmouth, Brown, Radford, - same HS as Meeks; made unofficial visit in late August
Poteat just committed to Rice. That is a good outcome, given that he clearly wasn't coming to Bucknell after the commitment of Screen. Boston U, American, and Lehigh were among the schools that didn't land him.

Offer to Caelan 'C.J.' Jones, a 6-5 wing from Los Angeles who will be doing a PG year at Vermont Academy after playing four years for Loyola in L.A. Has offers from Siena, Fairfield, Niagara, Sacred Heart, South Dakota, and Army - all in the past five weeks.
At Loyola - which is a good program - he seems to have been a role player who shot a lot of threes. Went 52-146 (46%) from beyond the arc but almost never went to the line. He didn't have any offers when he finished his senior year before they started pouring in, so presumably he has shown a lot of recent improvement.
Jones will make an official visit to Bucknell from September 12 through the 14th. He has picked up more offers, and now holds ones from Boston U, Vermont, Penn, Sacred Heart, Fairfield, Niagara, Siena, , Army, South Dakota, William and Mary, Princeton, Dartmouth, and Colgate.
Jones committed to Boston U. This was basically a done deal for the past week, as KenZ had figured out.
Joe Jones is a very good recruiter - and being in Boston is an enormous recruiting edge. Thankfully he is a poor coach.

Martindale to Holy Cross. Martindale's Worcester Academy teammate, Mike Rabinovich 6-9 F (no offer from Bucknell but had Lehigh, American, & Boston offers among others) committed to the Crusaders the next day.
Doesn't appear we had serious interest in Martindale and the offer may not have been valid anymore

It is nice to see HC getting players from their own backyard. Hopefully, this will help with attendance.

I am curious as to whom will fill the last scholarship. Verbal commits only shows Bucknell with a couple of kids with offers.

That's a good question. Of the three offers still outstanding, I don't think there is much of a chance of any ending up in Lewisburg. It's possible there will be a late offer and commitment, but that is becoming more unlikely each day. If nothing happens in the next few weeks, that means the scholarship will be carried over to the spring, a process that hasn't worked out real well in the past.
One possibility - and one I'd like to see explored more - is to land a transfer. Langel has brought in almost ten quality players via the transfer route, despite having far less basketball tradition/success than Bucknell plus a much worse gym plus a location in the middle of the tundra. With a concerted effort, the Bison might be able to land a few transfers as well.

I give this suggestion a big Thumbs Up! And if we get a D2 or D3 player, they can play right away, correct? We should be exploring point guards for this possibility, not bigs.
Also, re transfers, can the football team hop on that bus too? HELP WANTED sign is out and flashing....

Paul Harrison is recruiting in Florida. One player scouted was 6-5 wing AJ Staton-McCray of West Oak Academy. Has offers from DePaul, App State, IL State, Northeastern, UMKC, and LA Tech.

Joe Meehan has been looking at some players in California. Yesterday he checked out 6-5 wing Jadon Jones of St. Anthony's (Long Beach). He has offers from Northern Arizona and Sacramento State.

New offer to 6-3 SG Josh Adoh. Adoh is a post-grad player at Combine Academy, a sports-oriented prep in Charlotte. He played his HS ball in the San Francisco area. Shot the three well there. Seems to be strong/stocky. Has one other D1 offer: South Carolina Upstate. Paul Harrison had been down there at least twice (early December and early February) to watch him play. Hopefully he has recently improved and the Bison are ahead of the curve.
At this point, I don't really want any recruit who doesn't project as an above-average PL player. If the staff can't land a player who fits that mold, I'd much rather wait for a possible transfer. Bucknell in the scholarship era, btw, has brought in only four spring scholarship signees: Matt O'Reilly, Paul Newman, Walter Ellis, and Kahliel Spear.

With Deuce coming in primarily as a 2G I am surprised not trying to find a PG with the last scholarship. I feel there is a large need at the point.

Yes, the need is for a PG and for a SF. I mentioned in another post that Deuce has talked about preparing to play some PG at the next level, so possibly this is an indication that he really could see some time at that spot.
It's hard to judge how he would do as a PG since Malvern Prep has a very good PG - and Deuce is their second tallest starter - so they have no reason to put him at the point.

Adoh committed today. Still had only one other scholarship offer - South Carolina Upstate. Had no offers at the time he finished his four years of school in California.
I hope he proves me wrong, but I am not excited by this commitment. I would have preferred that they use the final scholarship on a good transfer. Langel has brought in eight transfers who were all above-average PL players. For whatever reason, Adoh is apparently the only player they made an offer to since November.

Again seems like the bison had other areas that needed to be addressed. A true point guard or small forward. I tried to dig up some info on Adoh but not much out there.

One site says he is 6-4. Am hoping that's accurate and that he can effectively play SF.
Here is one article on him during his senior year in California: https://www.prephoops.com/2018/02/prospect-spot lig...
Also a highlight video from this year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zl-_9Eq3zyQ
As in all highlight videos, he looks good. Fwiw, many articles indicate he is good from three-point range.

In his true senior year (2018-19), Adoh averaged 13.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg, and 1.7 spg against good competition in California. Hit 43% (63-148) on threes and 49% on twos.
