I recall Flannery being at Bucknell for a while, but it seems like his teams were middle of the pack in the Patriot League until last year. What's the difference nowadays? Is it really just a matter of scholarships? Was it one or two key players coming to Lewisburg or has the entire roster been improved?

flannery has always had solid patriot league teams, his career in-conference record being something like 96-51. id say part of it is scholarships; this is probably the deepest bucknell team in history (griffen, vegotsky, brown and vaier-mcclymont would all be starting for at least a couple pl teams). but its also the combination of experience (badmus, bettencourt, lee and mcnaughton are in their third year starting together, mastropaolo his second) and a great post player (mcnaughton) that has taken them to the next level.

fifteen years of starting experience on the floor for every tip. that doesnt happen very often.

Keep in mind that bettencourt and lee are not scholarship players. They have done a nice job of recruiting and went through their growing pains 2 years ago. The minutes that Brown, McNaughton, Abe, John Clark (although he his hurt this year) all played 2 years ago, benefitted them extremely well last year and this year.

Flannery has only had 1 losing season (4-8) in the PL, and 1 .500 season. Because he invariably plays a tough OOC schedule (87-102 for his BU career)the perception of a .500 coach, particularly in the last non scholarship years, may have been fostered

Flannery's current league record is 95-51. Not counting a 3-year record of 3-11 vs Holy Cross and American when they had scholarships and the rest of the league did not, his record is 92-40.

Just a bit more history... This is a program that has had 2 coaches since 1975 (Woollum & Flannery) - and is 504-370 overall during that period.

I am originally from central Pennsylvania and am compelled to ask you this question - how do you keep their families happy in Lewisburg?
