Coach Berube played with an undefeated championship team at UConn before spending 17 years coaching at Tufts, including eight consecutive D3 Sweet 16s and 4 Final Fours. She has also coached Gold-Medal winning U16 and U17 teams for USA Basketball.

Big jump up from Division III. I wonder why she stayed at Tufts so long considering her coaching success? Did she interview for other jobs or did she simply want to stay at Tufts for personal reasons.

Impressive resume but she has some BIG shoes to fill to put it mildly. Fortunately, she has Bella for a year to help the transition.

It sounds like Coach Berube likes the academics first environment at Tufts, and she is cut from the same mold as Coach Banghart.

Geno Auriemma is on record saying this is a great fit. I give his opinion a lot of weight given how well he knows Coach Berube.

Hoping to hear something from the current players and the incoming freshmen about how they are on board with this hire, but it sounds like if you had to replace Courtney, you couldn’t do much better.

Duke's Joanne P. McCallie resigned on Thursday due to uncertainty over a contract extension as she entered the final year of her current deal. She had been coach of the Blue Devils for the last 13 years.

The previous coach, Gail Goestenkors, who led the Blue Devils to four Final Fours in 15 seasons, announced her interest. Today, AD Kevin White told Goestenkors that she is not in the running.

ESPN's list of possible candidates did not include Carla Berube.

Back in May, ESPN looked at possible replacements for high profile coaches and mentioned Berube as a fit at Stanford.

With Courtney Banghart's immediate success at UNC and Berube's resume, it might be wise for White to give Berube's candidacy a serious review.

She went 7-11 in the ACC last year.

I get that it takes some time for a coach to get "her" players/style into a program, but I doubt anyone in Chapel Hill was happy with Banghart's inaugural season at UNC.

I think you'll find UNC fans are more than happy with the current state of the program. Prior to her arrival UNC's women's team had gone 4-12, 3-13, 4-12, and 8-8 in the ACC. Add on to that the negative perception of the program and the exodus of players stemming from the allegations against the former coach of racially insensitive comments and forcing players to play while injured, Banghart's record and culture are a vast improvement.

She's also bringing in a top 10 recruiting class, one of the best in UNC history, and she's even recruited back the former ACC freshman of the year who had transferred out of UNC during the investigation of the previous coach.

Duke hired former Tennessee great and recent Boston Celtics' assistant Kara Lawson as its new coach.

It's good that someone from the C's assistant coaching staff is able to get a chance to run a college program.
