Ally Johnson is listed as a starter for tonight's game in place of Walls.

Losing Walls would be a big blow. AJ and Tai can play the point, but they're not going to drive into the lane and draw fouls the way Marly does. She was key to keeping us in the game in the first half yesterday.
AJ has also struggled against pressing defenses when asked to play the point.

Yet another solid defensive effort tonight. Held American to 43 points, though 17 of those came in the fourth quarter after the game was out of reach. Walls DNP. I wasn’t there, so don’t know if she was dressed or anything else about her status.

Walls was not dressed and had her knee in a brace. I would be very surprised to see her back this year. Hoping I'm wrong.

I'm encouraged by the fact she was not on crutches. Time will tell how serious her injury is. AJ did a fine job filling in for her. They didn't miss a beat vs. American.
Big game Saturday @ Lehigh, but I like our chances. Lehigh only beat AU by 1 and had their hands full with Navy last night.

I’m not particularly encouraged, although I certainly hope it is something less serious. I have seen dozens of players with torn ACL’s who were able to get along without crutches prior to their surgery. My daughter tore her ACL twice, for example, and never used crutches until after surgery. Whether crutches are needed or not depends mostly on the swelling, and that is a function of several things.
Remember that Steven Tyree actually played most of the season in his final year with a torn ACL that had not been fixed. Lindsey Hollobaugh did the same. And Philip Rivers played in an AFC championship game with a torn ACL. Etc.

Bison women bused over to Lehigh this afternoon in the middle of the snowstorm. Arrived only an hour and five minutes before gametime. The Lehigh men on the other hand bused to Lewisburg the night before. Traveling today in the snow might’ve been a coaches decision, but my guess would be that the Bucknell administration simply refuses to pay for a hotel.

Let's hope this doesn't affect their play. This is a big one.
They could have left at 8:00 this morning and gotten there ahead of the snow.

Listening to the game, it appears they did go out last night. But why they arrived at the arena so close to game time was not clear. Normally teams arrive much earlier than 65 minutes before gametime.

Huge win for the bison today, beating previously undefeated Lehigh 71 to 50. BU hit a high percentage on threes, especially Kapp, and did a very good job on the boards.
The only bad news is that it was confirmed that Marly Walls has a torn ACL and is out for the season. That is a big loss to the team.

Bad news about Marly, but not unexpected. AJ has stepped in and done a great job. I just worry about her playing nearly 40 minutes all season.
There's a long way to go, but we've beaten the two teams picked to finish ahead of us on the road. And we've beaten them easily. If we get by Colgate on Wednesday, we're set up well for the rest of the season.

Perhaps this win will get us some attention in the mid-major polls. Lehigh is ranked 16th. Stony Brook, who we took to 2OT is 13th. Drexel, who we beat handily, is 23rd. Our only "bad" loss is to Quinnipiac who is having an uncharacteristic off year.

ESPN finally noticed the Bison, who now show up as a 13 seed in their bracketology, facing Iowa in the first round.

About the same as men. Most of the time - assuming no other problems - they are able to come back well, eventually at 100%. Typical timeline from date of surgery has been 6-9 months to be playing again if no unusual complications. But some researchers are now recommending that young athletes should wait longer, to minimize risk of any recurrence. And of course everyone is different as to how long it takes to be back to 100%.

Even with the level of today’s medical gold standard it’s never an injury you want to have to rebound from. Not sure anybody really recovers to 100%. Bernard King was the first to “recover†from an ACL tear after the first level of medical advancement. Before that it was a death sentence. Imagine Bernard with two “good†knees late in his career.

When King tore his, there was no transplant surgery available, so normally it WAS a death sentence as far as playing professionally. He did an incredible rehab job, but even then it took him two years to come back. And I don't think he was quite as good as he was in 1984-85 prior to the injury.
Definitely not an injury you want to come back from - and my kids have collectively gone through three of them. Having said that, I think stats show that many athletes are as good after the injury as before, even though it may take some time. The surgery and rehab process has improved dramatically over the years, and it continues to get better. In fact there is a procedure being used on some the last couple of years where the ACL can actually heal itself - which normally it cannot do. Over time, that procedure may become the gold standard.
Getting back to 100% is a mental process as well as physical, where the athlete has to fully trust the knee and not think about it when making an aggressive cut or a jump stop or when planting the leg to jump. It's not easy for some because they are doing the exact same thing that tore the ACL in the first place - and it's very easy to ease up either consciously or subconsciously.

Bison finally break into the mid-major top 25. Still ranked behind Lehigh and Drexel, neither of whom has nearly as good a resume as Bucknell. Sue Troyan must be paying off some of the voters.

It's also farcical - just as it is on the men's side - to see Gonzaga categorized as a mid-major.
