Bison finally break into the mid-major top 25. Still ranked behind Lehigh and Drexel, neither of whom has nearly as good a resume as Bucknell. Sue Troyan must be paying off some of the voters.

It's also farcical - just as it is on the men's side - to see Gonzaga categorized as a mid-major.

We have a better RPI than at least 14 of the teams ranked ahead of us. Colgate has a better RPI and the same record as Lehigh and isn't even receiving votes. I don't think the voters do much homework.

Another dominant performance against a quality team tonight. https://bucknellbison.com/news/2020/1/22/strong -fi...

Keep in mind, Colgate scored 100 points against Army and was averaging over 70 ppg. We held them to 43. With Lehign losing badly to HC, we are now 2 games up on all three having beaten them all once.

We have an easier stretch now with 6 games against the bottom half of the league.

Women’s RPI is now 48. That’s impressive.

Highlights from last night's game:

Check out Ellie Mack's one-handed catch and layup through a double team at 0:30. She was doubled most of the night, but managed 12 points along with 9 rebounds.

OK, jinx complete. Never expected we would lose to the last place team. Loyola's defense baffled us all day and we gave up too many O rebounds.

Hopefully this serves as motivation and doesn't undermine their confidence.

Lehigh lost their 3rd game in a row at Lafayette. Colgate pulled out a 1 point win in OT vs American.

They were probably overdue for a real clunker. . What concerns me however is the lack of real point guard with Marly Walls out. Ally Johnson is a very good shooting guard but really isn’t suited to play the point. Also playing that position limits her ability to get open threes from the wing.

They will go as far as their defense takes them. Today for whatever reason, Loyola hit a very high percentage of their three point attempts.

Walls could have made a difference today. It didn't help that Loyola was very aggressive and the refs decided to swallow their whistles. Our players were getting the snot beat out of them in the lane.

Bison bounced back nicely from Saturday's loss, beating Army 77-46. And it wasn't that close. It was 75-36 with 6:00 to play before Bucknell cleared the bench. This is the team we're used to seeing.

Lafayette is up 13 on Colgate at the under 5 TO. Lehigh lost their 4th game in a row, this time at home to American.

Any idea why Brugler only played nine minutes? Seems a little low for her.

She got 2 fouls in the first quarter and sat till the half, her third at 7:22 in the third. 63-28 and no need to bring her back. Ladies played great !

She picked up two fouls in 15 seconds late in the first. Sat for the rest of the half. Started the third quarter, but got a quick foul again and went back to the bench. She could have come back into the game later in the third quarter or at the start of the fourth - but by then, Bucknell was up by about 35 points and Ceppi/Krsul were doing fine in her place. I don't think there's an injury issue - just didn't need her with a 35+ point lead.

Our RPI dropped to 60 after the Loyola loss. I thought it would be worse. But then dropped to 63 after last night. That probably has more to do with Lehigh's tailspin than anything we've done. That win is much less impressive now that they've lost four in a row.

A big reason for the drop is simply having played Army, who has a very poor record. RPI gives a major weight to the strength of your opponents. That is a major reason that models such as Pomeroy or Massey are much more accurate. Also a major reason why RPI was dropped for the men's tournament selection process.

Pomeroy has no women's rankings. The best one for women's rankings is probably Massey, although I think his rankings place too much weight on the most recent couple of games. Massey has Bucknell at #94 at the moment. They were #72 a week ago - prior to the Loyola loss and the Army win.

Massey rankings for the entire Patriot League, showing current ranking and ranking a week ago (in parentheses):

94 (72) Bucknell (15-5)
138 (129) Colgate (14-6)
155 (151) HOLY CROSS (13-7)
164 (136) Lehigh (13-7)
191 (198) American (8-11)
197 (220) Boston University (10-10)
214 (240) Lafayette (10-9)
266 (268) Navy (7-13)
268 (286) Loyola (MD) (5-15)
291 (291) Army (5-15)

The Paatriot League ranks 18th among conferences.

You would think beating a team, regardless how bad, by 30+ points would help your ranking. There probably is no perfect ranking system. In the end it doesn't matter, except perhaps for NCAA seeding.

Beating Army did help, but only by a small amount. Note that the changes that are displayed above are ones from a week earlier – so it incorporates both the Loyola loss and the Army win. After losing to Loyola, I believe the Bucknell ranking was 97. Then it improved a bit after beating Army but not nearly back to where it had been a week or 10 days earlier.
