With school starting up again in a few weeks, I figure it's time to start a thread for the 2019-20 season. Carrying over a few pieces of recent news:
1. As reported by Bucknellbisonfan21, the women will open at Virginia on Tuesday November 5th. UVA was a top 100 team last year, although not as good as the ACC elites.
2. First new recruit for the new staff was 6-0 SF Kaylee Reinbeau from West Virginia: http://boards.basketball-u.com/showtopic.php?tid/2...
3. Second new recruit was Nicole Davis, a 6-4 PF/C from the Richmond area: http://boards.basketball-u.com/showtopic.php?tid/2...
4. Julie Kulesza, a wing from Delaware and that state's POY as a soph, is a Roussell commit who appears to be sticking with Bucknell. Thread: http://boards.basketball-u.com/showtopic.php?tid/2...

One bit of new news: Bison will host St. Bona on Wednesday November 13th. This will be the fourth straight year the two teams have met.

Bison women will be playing in the Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan over Thanksgiving. They face Cincinnati on November 28th. Possibly Iowa. Looks like the tournament may have had trouble getting participants, as it is apparently only two games this year as opposed to three last year.

It looks like there will only be 11 players on the roster this year. That seems pretty thin to be able to deal with injuries. Glad to hear Kulesza has not bailed out. We'll see what happens with Davis, but I'm not fond of project centers. The last one, MK Moore, did not work out. On the other hand, Sune Swart was a bit of a project and ended up being very good.

Didn't want to start a separate thread for this, but Jewel Spear, Kahliel's sister, who is a rising senior and one of the better guards in the country, cut her list of colleges down to eight earlier in the summer. Not too shabby a list:
- Louisville
- Georgetown
- Kansas
- Michigan
- Texas Tech
- Wake Forest
- Alabama
- North Carolina State

Temple is the bigger name, but Drexel has been significantly better than Temple the last couple years. They handed the Bison one of their very few losses last year.

Five of the last seven league games at home which is nice. Hope they do another PL double header this year.

Cincinnati, Quinnipiac, and UVA will be tough games. Stony Brook is also decent. The rest of the schedule is fairly easy. Even with all the graduation, this will be a good team. Keep in mind their final RPI was 37 last year.

The women played like a legit 12 seed. I hope the program can continue to grow.

Very close preseason poll released today:
Patriot League Women’s Basketball Preseason Poll
Lehigh – 140 (9 first-place votes)
Holy Cross – 138 (5 first-place votes)
Bucknell – 132 (4 first-place votes)
Boston University – 113
American – 103 (2 first-place votes)
Colgate – 78
Loyola Maryland – 74
Navy – 44
Lafayette – 42
Army West Point – 36
Ellie Mack, as expected, is an All-PL pick.
There won't be any easy games this year, as even the bottom three are dangerous. I think Navy should have been ranked a few spots higher. Army is not a typical last place team either.

Bison will have a new face for their women's broadcasts this year: Joe Vasile. He has been the announcer for West Chester's women's team the last few years and also has worked for several minor league baseball teams (including Scranton Wilkes-Barre). Joe has also done some Bucknell women's games as a fill-in and also some soccer and FH games, while also doing work for Princeton and Lafayette. Based on from what I have heard from his so far, I think his addition will likely be an upgrade.
The previous Bison announcer, Justin Antweil, has moved over to cover the Penn State women.
Joe Vasile hired as radio play-by-play voice of Bison women's basketball

Never posted about the women's first game. Lost at Virginia, 80-64, although they only trailed by 9 points with 8 minutes left. Virginia currently is ranked 63rd in the country, so the result was no big surprise - especially with Abby Kapp playing very limited minutes. I noticed in a video last night that her knee was tightly wrapped in practice, so I am assuming that is the main issue. Hopefully nothing else.
Ellie Mack had a very good game, with 19 points (on 13 shots) and 5 boards. The other highlight was Taylor O'Brien getting 13 points off the bench in 23 minutes.
Three determining factors: (1) Bison were outrebounded 38-19 by a team that had more athleticism upfront; (2) Virginia got to the line for 28 FT's vs BU's 13 attempts; and (3) Virginia hit 55% on threes vs BU's 30%.
We will learn a lot more about the new Bison tomorrow evening when they meet Monmouth in Sojka at 6 PM.

Final at UVA was 84-60. Would have been more respectable at 80-64.

And who is Bridget Tobin (SO)? Is she a late walk-on?

A walk-on, but not really late. She has been on the team the entire fall. Bridget Tobin is a 5-5 PG from Red Bank Regional (NJ Shore Conference) - which has been a good program and plays in a fairly strong league. She averaged 12 ppg, 4 rpg, and 4 apg as a senior. Dpubtful she will ever play meaningful minutes but the roster definitely needed an addition.

Yes, I typed too fast. It is correct, however, that they only trailed by 9 points with about 8 minutes left. Apparently they wore down. It didn't help having Kapp on the bench.
