The Atlantic 10 preseason poll came out today, with Fordham picked to finish last. That prompted me to look up their cumulative record in the A10 since leaving the Patriot League.
The Rams have gone 100 - 294 (.254). One wonders if there's a Fordham board where posters lament having accepted an invite to a more prominent league. Sort of a Bizarro-world version of Crossports.

Yes, there is a fairly active Fordham board where most still think they can make it in the A-10 if they find the right coach and improve facilities. Fordham's fate could have been that of HC had they left the PL. Fordham is 36-150 (.193) in A10 games since 2009 - a mark that makes HC's poor PL years look good by comparison.

Their facilities concerns are legitimate. I follow Jacksonville University in the A Sun and the number of recruits they lose to inadequate facilities is measurable in each recruiting class.

Wow, I'm very happy for him.
This is a solid pick by ESPN: He has a great personality to join that crew and add to the fun. On the downside, this will trim his Bucknell attendance.

One problem with this is that the major programs with the big boosters will have an in enormous advantage. Their fans will offer massive amounts of money for images and products endorsed by their players. You may see Kentucky basketball players or Alabama football players making many hundreds of thousands If dollars a year as time goes by.

If this will allow compensated appearances in advertising, it seemingly opens a huge back door for business-owning boosters to pay athletes directly.

Also will add another reason for players to go with certain schools, not that Duke or NC or Kentucky need more draw for players.

Mount St. Mary's actually led Georgetown tonight by 46-27 early in the second half. Held on for a while before Georgetown unfortunately went on a 29-10 run and then ended the game on a 10-1 run. The Mount, whose second year coach is Dan Englestad, former assistant of Milan Brown, looks like he might be moving the program back towards the NEC top echelon.
A question for Doctor62. On the HC board, it was said of MSM students, that only "950 or so are traditional full time undergrads." Is that number accurate?

In a shocker, game 3 opponent Hofstra, preseason CAA favorite, lost at home 79-71 to Pomeroy sub 300 ranked San Jose State.

Not close. MSM currently has over 1700 full-time undergrads w/ a goal of surpassing 1800 next fall. Which know-it-all threw out that fact ... it's been years since I've been on that board (and my life is better for it).

Just to clarify, he specifically excluded students doing their courses on-line as opposed to being on-campus. Does that make a difference?

He also excluded seminary students. From what I read online, MSM has roughly 25 full-time online students. It's unclear whether the MSM totals include seminarians or not, but there are only 150 of then anyhow. I think our HC poster is all wet on this one.

MSM has 1732 currently enrolled traditional undergraduate students, 1706 full-time and none of whom are in online programs. For the first time in its history, the Mount has had 3 freshman classes in a row > 500 and hopes to make it four in a row next year to reach the goal of 1800 F/T UGs.
The University also has adult programs in Frederick that include 161 undergraduate students (43 full-time) and 312 graduate students (68 full-time) across six disciplines, none of which are fully online. And, then there is the seminary, the second largest in the country, with 152 men. So, total head count > 2,350.
All that said, if we had one more healthy guard last night, we could have perhaps staved off Georgetown in the second half. We have two very good wing scorers who ran out of gas in the last 5 minutes. So, optimum UG enrollment is 1733.
I think every HC poster is all wet.

San Jose State's records the last two years were 4-26, followed by 4-27. Also a ombined league record of 2-34! What is really amazing about this win is that they pulled it off with no new players from last year - and with last year's top player, a 6-10 center, having transferred out.
San Jose State's coach, btw, is Jean Prioleau, who some Bison fans will remember was an All-PL player during Fordham's championship runs in 1991 and 1992. With this being his third year as coach, his seat must be getting pretty warm.

Nice win last night for St Joe's and assistant coach John Griffin. As 15-point underdogs, they beat UConn in Connecticut.
Meanwhile, former Paulsen assistant Dane Fischer's turnaround project at William & Mary is off to a nice start. The Tribe is 3-0, with all three wins on the road (High Point, American, Wofford).

On the other hand, Jay Wright's #10 ranked team got spanked by 15 points at #16 Ohio State.
