Game tips at 6pm ET Saturday on ESPN+.
The Bison and Saints have had one common opponent: Yale. Siena went to triple overtime at Yale before losing 100-89. Bucknell lost 81-61 in Orlando.
KenPom has Siena at #201 and Bucknell at #211.

It is very surprising that Siena pushed Yale to triple OT. If they play like that against the Bison, it could be a long night.
BTW, with 2 OOC games remaining, I wonder if we will see the regular rotation that Coach Davis plans to use in PL games.
New season, new team, new dream . . . |

Should be a competitive but winnable game. Hopefully the time off has returned Newman and Meeks to full health. Would be nice to go into PL play on a winning streak.

Interesting that both Newman and Meeks are listed as "expected to be available" but Rhodes still projected to start at center.

He may start, but I wouldn’t read too much into the lineup in the game notes. There have been many occasions where the projected starting lineup was merely whatever group started the previous game. That has been true even on occasions when everyone knew that it was incorrect.

Siena has a few interesting names in their starting lineup:
1. Elijah Burns, a 6-8 transfer from Notre Dame , is a grad student at Siena. Bucknell seriously recruited him when he played in the Albany area and then at Blair Academy. Averaging 14 ppg and 6 rpg.
2. Donald Casey, a 6-5 wing, played about 32 mpg for Mt. St. Mary's two years ago before following Jamion Christian to Siena. Averaging over 14 ppg as a Siena starter this year.
3. Jalen Pickett was MAAC ROY last year and the preseason pick for POY this year. Last year he became only the second MAAC freshman (along with the great Lionel Simmons) to make 1st team All-MAAC. Scored 46 points in one game vs Quinnipiac. Averaging over 16 ppg in 38 mpg thus far this year, and that number is expected to go up.
4. Manny Camper is a 6-7 PF and the most improved player on Siena. He is averaging 14 ppg and 11 ppg.

Truax?
If it's Truax you're talking about, he has attended all the home games. I doubt he has been to many road games. Many Penn State.

They got my hopes up in the second half when they got within 6. As least they didn't roll over when they got down. Big difference in defense with Newman in there. He's got to learn not to foul because they struggle with him on the bench. Still hoping for this team to gel when PL play starts, but seems they're a long way away right now.

34 free throws for Siena (they made 28) compared to 9 for the Bison (who made 7)!

We can’t defend and can’t score inside so it’s difficult. 25-26 3’s a game. Shoot you in it or shoot you WAY out of it. Seniors were just LOST tonight. PL will be better but still challenging. Hope I’m being overly cynical but not sure I am from what I see. Love for the guys to prove me wrong. We need a really good tire-cutter 3 or athletic stretch 4 with that last offer. Don’t want to point to specific guys but we have WAY too many kids on the court that are WAY too SLOW and WAY too SOFT. Love the kids and the program but we don’t really seem to know what we’re trying to do. Note: I always try to be specific and not make abstract statements like that (because I think they’re usually meaningless) but I don’t see any consistent theme other then egregious 3 point shot selection. On the defensive side we’re stubbornly consistent. We insist on playing 100% MTM when OOC opponents are averaging 86 pts a game against us coming into tonight (that’s what I heard the announcer say...can that possibly be right?)

I had modest hopes before the season, but thus far, I don’t have a ton of confidence this will be a good season. I just am not feeling the excitement I ALWAYS feel. Maybe it’s the overall poor play or lack of something specific to look forward to...I hope improvement comes but so far it is difficult to project if that will happen.

Kid Burns will be 1 month shy of his 24th birthday when the NCAA tourney ends in early April. When we opened the season at Fairfield the kid Eze was already 24 on opening night! As I posted last year after the championship game Texas Tech played the preponderance of the game with 3 24 year olds out of 5! Bruce Moore will turn 22 5 months after he graduates Bucknell in May. They’re doing their best to ruin the college game. Burns sat out last year. Exactly what kind of graduate program exists on the outskirts of Albany that doesn’t exist at ND? It’s why Sestina playing at UoK is no less egregious. You want to ruin the college game forever just play the tournament on the court of the higher seed and let them hire the refs. Not too far away from Buck having to play MSU an hour down the road from East Lansing with a B10 ref who DQ’s our best player on a needless technical call. What happens when they start paying the kids? How many years can you hang around and collect a check? They’re gonna need a D1 and a D1A. A year ago we were talking about Mooney losing his job at Richmond. Now they could be a top 3 team in the A10. Mooney must have run into Langell in a bar. Interesting how when there’s no money in it schools like Loyola MD, Albany and John Hopkins can compete for an NCAA championship year in and year out in lacrosse and Buck can go to the water polo F4. Game looks completely different from Buck-Kansas in a decade and a half.

24 year olds vs 21-22 year olds may not be the same as putting a good 14.5 year old against a good 12 year old but there’s still a distinction. I know one thing; I not taking my 401k money and going to the tote and laying it on a “promising†2-year old vs a quality seasoned 4-year old.
Sotos carrying us for long periods of wins and keeping some losses from being even uglier.
