I’m sure you all got the email from Bravman too, but if you didn’t, $10 million of a new $40 million bequest will go to immediate improvements in and around Christy Matthewson stadium. Looking forward to hearing some specifics on that.

Three things that were in the planning state were:

1. Replacing the old scoreboard with a large videoboard.

2. A new building at the open end dedicated to the football and lacrosse teams.

3 A new field turf practice field adjacent to the stadium.

The article on BucknellBison.com elaborates

"Athletics enhancements funded by the pledge are anticipated to open in 2023, and include the new Michael C. Pascucci Team Center and a turf practice field offering additional training and practice space for eight men's and women's teams. The improvements will be 100% donor funded, including an endowment to offset operations. They will also have a ripple effect that will benefit all of Bucknell's 27 Division I athletics teams by freeing up locker room, training and rehabilitation space in the Kenneth Langone Athletics & Recreation Center and elsewhere on campus. The practice field will also be available for recreational use, spreading the impact on student life even further. . . .

The complex's name will be displayed on a new video board at Christy Mathewson–Memorial Stadium, construction of which is also supported by more than $1 million in giving by additional donors. The new board will be operational this fall."

This is awesome news and should make for any better experience for both the athletes and fans. Hopefully people will be able to see the new board from Rt. 15 too to help remind local fans they have a D1 FCS team they can watch on Saturdays.

I thought that saying the field would be used for eight teams might be an exaageration. Now I see they have changed the press release to say: "offering additional training and practice space for several men's and women's teams."

Seems like the likely users will be football and lacrosse (a lot), plus men's and soccer (in bad weather and prior to playing a team who has a field turf soccer field). JKRun, any possible use of the turf field for T&F?

The track team would not have much use for the turf field. But my understanding is there will be meeting space in the new building which would be very useful, particularly before during and after meets. The video board could also be very useful for displaying results, etc.

The bad news is that the javelin runway has to move to the West Fields. Javelin throwers already labor in obscurity and moving them away from the stadium during meets makes matters worse. Given the great success of our throwers over the years, it's a shame there isn't a better solution.
