I was talking to an old alumnus pal today about the PL tournament and one thing led to another and we ended up talking about old Bison football games back in our years on campus. We suddenly were discussing an old song that used to play at football games and began wondering what ever happen to that fight song. Upon looking online, neither of us could find anything about it. I was wondering if any of our older alums remember it. It was called "Go Bison Up the Field". Does anyone else remember it, and if so, as a surprise to another fellow alumnus, we would like to get a copy of it if possible. We even remember the words, and wonder why it disappeared from Bison games, as we both find it as good as our traditional "'Ray Bucknell".
Any help or info out there you can share?

I definitely remember the song, but sadly not all of the words. But thanks to Mrs ‘63 we might have it:
“Go Bisons (yes with an “sâ€) up the field, it’s Bucknell today; rip that opponents line and we’ll show them that the Orange and the Blue will wave forth in victory to do or to die, so Bisons fight the foe with all your might because it’s Bucknell today.â€
Close if not totally right.

63, that is it ! What Mrs. 63 wrote is right, followed by the refrain "Thunder on, thunder on to victory - Thunder on, thunder on, make history - Our Bucknell Bisons are going to win the football game today - So" and then the first part repeats. In addition, the tune was much better than "'Ray Bucknell", kind of reminding me of fight songs for Penn State , Michigan, and Wisconsin. Why was this song dropped - a good question to the Bison Club personnel.
PS - Yes, you are right - it was BISONS.

And no discussion of fight songs is complete without noting that the disturbing fact that the tune of ‘Ray Bucknell is essentially identical to Lehigh’s song.
Who had it first? Who else might be using it?

Not saying we should drop "'Ray Bucknell" (although it does bother me that the tune is also used by Lehigh), but why can't we resurrect "Go Bisons Up the Field". Make a few changes (Bisons to Bison, change a few words to make it not strictly football oriented but all sports oriented, etc.) and have our own unique fight song like none other out there. I can't believe we have gotten off on this tangent, but I think it is something the powers in the Bison Club should look into. As the song says "Thunder on, thunder on to victory, thunder on, thunder on make history."

My wife actually had the “Thunder on.. “ chorus as well mangy, but I figured you got the gist. Like the idea of bringing it back. I mean how dumb is it when you have the same fight song (if that is what you want to call it) as your biggest rival?

I wonder if the Bison Club have a copy of it in the archives, or if the pep band have an old copy of the sheet music?

and show them that the Orange and Blue will always wave forth in victory, to do or to die
Bison, fight the foe with all your might because it's Bucknell today.
Thunder on...

I graduated in 1975 and have no recollection of it. Of course, I have no recollection of a lot of things from that period. They say that if you remember that era, you weren’t part of it.
