It's much harder to get info on women's recruiting, but I see the Bison just extended an offer to a strong player from the Philly area: Kaitlyn Orihel, a 5-9 junior SG from Archbishop Wood (Andrew Funk's alma mater). Has offers from Towson, Delaware, Drexel, Princeton, GWU, St. Joes, Hofstra, UMass, Miami (OH), Loyola, and others. Her AW team won the Philly Catholic League title this year and she was MVP.

This is a very important recruiting year for Trevor Woodruff and staff, with his rising seniors (Abby Kapp, Ally Johnson, Tessa Brugler, and Autumn Ceppi) being one of the best recruiting classes the Bison have ever had. His first recruiting class was OK, but he needs to take it up a level this year to keep the Bison on top of the PL. Particularly needs a couple of good post players.

One offer from last month:

Malia Fisher, a 6-2 forward from Georgia. Has offers from Southern Miss, ODU, UNCW, W&M, Furman, Mercer, Wofford, Colgate, ECU, IN St, Kennesaw, Marshall, Monmouth, Nova, WCU, Belont, Colorado, Delaware, GA St, Lipscomb, LIU, WKU, LC, Penn, Georgetown, UAB, Columbia, GWU, Liberty, Richmond.

She is obviously a really good player, but the chance of the Bison getting a commitment is slim.

You’re probably right, but I like the fact that we’re aiming high. You can’t make the shots you don’t take.

Always intrigued at the recruiting strategies new coaches implement-what geographies and type of players they focus on. Seems like all the assistants have PA roots - may be a great idea with all the Phila and nearby talent. Reed coached at Susquehanna, Kelly Mazzante a great background from Penn State, WNBA, and small town HS (Montoursville), and Tayor Coleman from Scranton and Susquehanna. Can they identify and pick off talent from Phila Catholic League and other hot spots? Unless you are at the UConn level, Bucknell has a lot of assets.

Roussell and his staff did very well recruiting in state. Hopefully, we have a good reputation among HS and AAU coaches. We've gotten lots of good players from both SE and Western PA.

I am going to make a prediction and say Kelly Mazzante is the Bison's next coach. Coach Roussell seems excellent too so I'm referring to at some point later when Roussell moves on.

Coach Roussell moved on last season to Richmond , took hie entire staff along for the ride. Trevor Woodruff came to the Bison from Div 3 Scranton an hired his current staff, including Kelly Mazzante, he is going to be here for a few years, the ,guy can coach, first year Patriot League Coach of the Year.

Stefanie Kulesza, the younger sister of incoming Bison guard Julie Kulesza, just committed to UMass. I had hoped she would end up in a Bison uniform, as she is 3 inches taller and likely the better of the two.

New offer to Tatiana Popa, a 6-5 center from Parkersburg WV, on the Ohio border. Parkersburg was probably the #1 team in WV this past year. Has offers from Texas Tech, Delaware, Murray State, Austin Peay, Hawaii, Troy, UTSA, San Jose, LA Tech, Binghamton, Cal-Bakersfield, and others.

She is well-traveled, having played for a MD public HS as a frosh, for Montverde Academy (FL) as a soph, IMG Academy (FL) for the first half of her junior year, followed by Parkersburg in January and February.

With the departure of Ellie Mack, combined with the only credible post players on the 2020-21 roster being seniors, it is imperative that Woodruff find at least one good center in the upcoming recruiting class.

Not going to start a 2023 thread yet, but I see Woodruff just offered Ciera Toomey, a 6-3 forward from Dunmore (just north of Scranton). Her first offer was from Penn State. She averaged 16.5 ppg and made 3rd team All-State 3A as a freshman. She hit 51% on threes, although it is unclear how many she took. Also one of the better golfers in the state.

She looks like she might be an Ellie Mack type of player. Certainly one who would be a very good player to land.

A new offer to Journey Thompson, a 6-2 junior forward from a strong Peters Township program, just south of Pittsburgh. Averaged 16 ppg and 11 rpg as a soph against good competition. Already has offers from Pitt, St. John's, Duquesne, Boston U, Indiana State, Charlotte, UMass, Western Michigan, Kent State, Robert Morris, Quinnipiac, UNCW, Penn, Cleveland State, Oakland, Stony Brook, FIU, Wofford, and maybe others.

Glad to see the staff is shooting high. This is the type of bigger player who could keep the Bison at the top of the Patriot League.

COVID-19 has reset the switch on a lot of things in society. But I think the Bison women are well positioned as an elite non-major program.

A few blurbs on next year's freshmen:

- Remi Sisselman made her season debut this week due to covid delays. Had 27 points and 20 rebounds.

- Isabella King has had a more normal season, with her Bedford (NH) team having a 7-1 record. She had scored 30+ points in three straight games before missing much of her last game with a minor ankle injury. Had 16 points in 18 minutes in that game.

- Cecelia Collins had 20 points, seven rebounds and five steals in a 50-45 win over the #2 team in the area a couple weeks ago. I think her Scranton Prep team is 5-0, although it is tough to tell with all the covid postponements.

Interview with Collins: https://accessnepa.com/sports/aow-extra-cece lia-co...

It continues to look like a good recruiting class, albeit without a much-needed post player.

Bella King had 31 points on Tuesday in a 50-36 win over Manchester. She also was just named as a nominee for the McDonald's All-American game. There are a lot of nominees (450+), but it is still a nice thing to see.

Bucknell recruit Remi Sisselman was also nominated.

Cecelia Collins of Scranton Prep got 19 points ( 8-11 shooting), 10 rebounds, and 3 assists last night as they won their 50th straight game in the Lackawanna League’s Division I, beating 8-1 Abington. Prep is now 12-0.

How are these results possible? No one is playing basketball because of COVID.

Pa has been playing all Winter sports, Basketball, wrestling, Swimming, Volleyball, played Fall and I would expect, Spring outdoor sports would all happen. State Championships have all also gone on, sometimes is a different Venue, for example Bucknell is not hosting PIAA Swimming, moved to a high school facility.
