  • Bison137 Said:
”Ohio State applied for an immediate eligibility waiver for Jimmy Sotos, a transfer from Bucknell. Holtmann said the program hasn’t heard back yet from the NCAA about approval or denial.

“We're thin at the perimeter positions,” Holtmann said. “We have put in a waiver for Jimmy Sotos, but we don't have a word on that.””

Ohio State’s starting point guard, CJ Walker, is a fifth year senior. It appears that Ohio State wants to get Sotos cleared for immediate eligibility just as a insurance policy, where he could step in and start if Walker got injured but could take a redshirt if he weren’t desperately needed. If Walker stays healthy, then Sotos would use his final year of eligibility in 2021-22.

Sotos’ appeal for immediate eligibility was denied by the NCAA. He is appealing the ruling. Seems like he is one of a handful who has not been given immediate eligibility.l

I wonder what changed for OSU to want him immediately available. According to an article, the plan was always for Jimmy to sit out a year and help a young backcourt in 21-22.

Two things:

1. Even if the plan is for him to sit, if they get the waiver then he is available to take over if a starting guard gets a serious injury.

2. With the NCAA ruling giving athletes an extra year of eligibility, even if he plays this year he can still also play next year. If he doesn't play this year, he may be able to play two years in 2021-22 and 2022-23 (not sure) - but he may not want to stay two more years after this year.

Yes. Seems like a very strange time to step down.

His resignation apparently is not voluntary. It follows a major internal investigation into his conduct, which was precipitated by allegations from players of racial insensitivity etc.

PSU's interim head coach will be top assistant Jim Ferry, who was very successful years ago at LIU but not successful at Duquesne.

I liked the hire early on, but haven’t been a huge fan of late. I just tire of his constant screaming and body language that says “I’m gonna rip your head off.” Timing is definitely not good, but PSU was going to struggle this year no matter.

Sotos' appeal of the original denial was successful and he will be able to play this year for OSU. Can also play next year.

That's understandable, although Norlander doesn't seem to do much homework on mid-majors. He has Loyola way too low and Army too high imo.

Temple just added Cam Ayers to their staff as a graduate manager. Also added Colgate's Sean O'Brien plus a former Temple player in the same role. Temple has a basketball staff of at least 13 this year.

Navy has six OOC games currently on their schedule before they meet the Bison in the first two PL games. Terrible job by the Patriot League.

Navy shot 10/23 from behind the arch and had only 9 turnovers. That is a good recipe for winning by 7 points over GW.

Kahliel Spear’s waiver request denied. How are the circumstances of his transfer different from those of Sotos?

I doubt the circumstances are any different. But the political power of the petitioners is very different. Compare the power of Ohio State and the Big 10 to the power of Robert Morris and the Summit League.
