I believe he has one more year on his contract. Not the end of the world if he takes a year off. If he comes back to "one of those academic schools" he'll take a cut, so unless he has the opportunity to move up, let GM pay him.

He could write another book on the motion offense. 😉

Mason is essentially throwing Duane Simpkins Paulson's assistant coach, under the bus. Paulson really did a fantastic job in all facets of Mason basketball, except get them to the dance. So technically, yes, get a new coach but beware the ramifications. Brad Edwards is directly quoted in the Washington Post as saying "I am grateful for Dave's commitment, tireless work, and leadership in directing our program over the past six years".
He also states on the Mason website the new coach English is a "tremendous communicator, tireless worker, and natural leader." So its really not apples and oranges, its replacing a high quality coach on a technicality of not getting to the dance, and giving a young assistant from a successful program a chance. I get it. But Simpkins could have been the guy, Dave promoted him and he did well at mason, but what now? And Simpkins was as good a DMV recruiter you can get. So what happened? This new coach will soon realize there are no participation trophies in the A-10, this new coach is way over his head, and what of his career then? There is no happily ever after when a new guy follows a Paulson, the games will sort that out.

GMU apparently already paid him. He reportedly received a $370,000 buyout, which is approximately half of his annual salary. So he is free to do anything he wants without it having any effect on what he gets from GMU.

Various reports say that former Bison assistant Mark Prosser is taking the head-coaching job at Winthrop. I would pay a lot of money if Prosser were taking the head coach job at Bucknell instead.

Sweet move for Prosser, who was an assistant at Winthrop before taking the head coach job at Western Carolina.
In other news, major opening as Roy Williams retires at UNC.
I wonder if Colgate's Matt Langel will be moving on. Current openings: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketba ll/story...

Langel would be a great hire for a genuine mid-major program. Imagine what he could do with a home court advantage and not 370 cadavers at each game.

He had some interest in the Fordham job, which ended up going to Lehigh alum Kyle Neptune. It looks like the only job left that might interest him is Hofstra. It's a better job, but not a big step up. In any event, I haven't seen his name linked to it. Maybe Grasso of Bryant.
St. Joes blundered when they hired Billy Lange instead of Langel. Since he is a Philly guy, he may wait until LaSalle or Temple opens up in a couple of years. I'm sure he'd love Penn, but I doubt Donahue is going anywhere.

What about Langel for a struggling program with high academics like Rice?

George Mason is going to pay new coach Kim English $925,000 a year--25.5% more than they paid Paulsen.

Dino Gaudio, who was a head coach at Army, Loyola (MD), and Wake, was indicted today for attempted extortion. Allegedly demanded payments from Louisville - where he was an assistant the past few years - or else he would report NCAA violations.

Cam was just hired by Dane Fischer as the DOBO at W&M. I'm sure he will land a regular coaching job within a few years.

RIP Jim Phelan
I'll second that. Phelan was a head coach for 49 years (1354 games), all of them at Mount St. Mary's. His teams faced the Bison 11 times - seven vs Charlie Woollum and four vs Pat Flannery.
