The issue is that Exhibit 10 contracts are not guaranteed. So while the salary is the league minimum unless Nate actually ends up on the NBA roster it's not substantially different than a training camp invite with a potentially easier path to the G-League.

Exhibit-10 deals are one-year contracts for the league minimum salary. The deals come with an optional bonus of up to $50,000 if the player doesn't make it in camp but is assigned to the team's G-League affiliate.
According to everywhere I've looked it is in fact at the league minimum
I think that it is the league minimum if they make it on the team.

The Nets released their official preseason roster today. It includes 16 experienced NBA players who already have contracts, plus one with an NBA two-way contract plus their second round draft pick, who was the SEC Co-POY as a soph PF/C this past season at Mississippi State. He will stick either on the regular roster or, at worst, on a two-way contract.
Thus, absent a James Harden trade where multiple players go the other way, or an incredible run of serious injuries, there is absolutely no space on the Nets' roster. But it will be good experience.

The best Nate can hope for is a G-league contract and see where it goes from there.

Forgot to post the other day that Nate was waived by the Nets. If he wants it, he should have a spot on their G-League team. As I understand it, that league will play a modified schedule in a bubble in Georgia this year.

That gives some credibility to the name "G League."

Nate is on the Long Island Nets 12-Man Roster
They open their 15-game G-League schedule next week. All games are being played at the ESPN facility at Disney World.
Will be interesting to see how much playing time he gets. There are some pretty good players on the roster.

Except for this silly phrase:
"Sestina, who has been a journeyman throughout his time in the collegiate circuit..."
Makes it sound like he played for four different schools.

Article on Nate: Rookie Nate Sestina ready to impress with Long Island Nets
His first game is tomorrow night. For those who are interested, all but one of his games are available on ESPN+, with the only exception being carried by ESPNU.

Seems a lot of 3-pt attempts are in Nate’s future.

I seem to remember that the Sixers' Shake Milton got his start in pro ball with their G League team in DE. So, there is definitely a clear path to the NBA for Sestina: play well, play often, and score a lot in the G League. Also, some injuries on the Nets would probably lead to opportunities for G League players to showcase their skills.

I watched the 1st quarter and thought Nate looked pretty good. Had a couple drives to the basket where he looked reasonably quick in addition to the expected pick & pops from 3.
Two G League novelties from the game.
The other team had 4 (or 5) players unavailable due to breaking quarantine rules and had to dip into the pool of pre-screened players already in the bubble to make numbers for their first game. G League teams are used to restore disruption by their nature, but that's probably an extreme.
The G League is also experimenting with a new way of handling foul shots to speed up the game. If you get fouled on a 3 you shoot 1 shot worth 3 pts, fouled on a 2 one shot worth 2 pts, etc. Over a large enough sample the expected value of a trip to the line should work out the same, but in a game setting could introduce some variance. They do revert to the traditional approach at the end of the game.

Interesting. I didn't know that. The G League first started talking about making this change about seven years ago. They estimated it would eliminate five minutes of dead time from a game. One stat, which doesn't surprise me, is this:
"the D-League brandished stats that showed that players convert the second of a pair of free throws at a better rate than the first (for D-Leaguers, 71.1 percent vs. 76.3 percent; for NBA players, 73.2 percent vs. 77.7 percent). The trend holds for three-shot trips, as well, as players get progressively more proficient from the first to third attempts."

Nate got his second consecutive start, although his total minutes have continued to be in the range of 19 mpg. Ended up with 8 points (2-4 on threes), 3 rebounds, 2 assists. Those are all close to his season average.

Nate had his best statistical game of the season in a 101-94 win yesterday. Went 5-12 on threes, ending up with 17 points and 5 boards in 20 minutes. He did not attempt any two-point shots.
