Two very positive observations after a day spent on campus. First, the women’s soccer team is much improved this year, and a lot of fun to watch. Their victory over preseason favorite Navy was well earned. Second, the new scoreboard at the football stadium is awesome. I like it a lot.

137 is it a result of injury? I really thought the program was moving forward with Coach Cecchini but ii don’t think it’s a Bison problem as others have also suggested. It appears there is a league wide decline in out of conference competitiveness which is sad when recalling how good the League seemed to be doing only a few years ago.

Watching the Homecoming game vs Cornell on ESPN, and I do not believe there are enough people there to make Sojka more look crowded. Going back to a time when the football game was the highlight of the weekend, this is hard to watch. Back in the day as some of you will remember, they also had a Homecoming parade in which many area high school bands, as well as the Bison Marching Band ( now extinct) participated. Later on all of those bands were in the stands at the football game. I think those bands accounted for more people than I see at today’s game. On the positive side the shots of the area surrounding the stadium are gorgeous.

Nice comeback win for FB Bison before a huge homecoming crowd of about 12,000 empty seats. There also appeared to be a few hundred people there. Bison trailed 7-0 and 10-7 before taking control and winning 21-10. Two Big Red turnovers thwarted certain scoring opportunities for them. One, an interception on the one just before half, when they were well within FG range. Second a 4th quarter fumble on first and goal at the one, recovered in the end zone by the good guys. Had CU gotten that FG before the half they could have opted to go for two to tie if they had scored instead of fumbled in the fourth quarter. Of course that all assumes that all else unfolded as it did.

Nice win after some struggles in the first few games. Helps to have a few starters back. It would have been closer but for some untimely turnovers by Cornell. But credit the Bison for forcing those turnovers.

I caught the end of the Lafayette-Fordham game. Fordham scored a TD with 22 seconds left to win 42-41. Bison defense better be ready when we play those two teams. At the other end of the spectrum, Lehigh lost to Yale 34-0. Lehigh has yet to score a TD and has been outscored 174-9 this season, giving up at least 30 points in all five games.

I was at the game, and the crowd was indeed surprisingly small for a sunny homecoming afternoon. That said, credit to those who were there, because they were pretty loud, aided by a couple fans who brought their own drums. The team seemed to get better and better as the game went on, which was a pleasant surprise. I’m afraid Cornell is in for a long year. They aren’t very good.

I was there for homecoming and watched the entire game. Yes it is sad that more people don't attend. That said, The new score board screen is great, as well as audio that one can actually hear. I didn't know that they were putting a mini scoreboard along the Press Box wall , which is a nice feature to have as well, when you are sitting in the sun. It was nice to have a victory on homecoming to leave everyone in a good mood for the rest of the evening.

Nice upgrades, but I could do without the play by play guy screaming, “IT’S THIRD DOWN!!!,†while they ring that bell.

A few thoughts:
1. Agree with NoMoney about the quality of the new scoreboard and also the secondary scoreboard.
2. As Bison75 pointed out, the crowd got quite loud. I believe the ringleader, who has been doing this for four years, is a friend/relative of Bison DE Grayson Cherubino, who unfortunately is one of the many Bison who has suffered a serious injury. That hasn't stopped his buddy from envigorating the crowd. He used to use a huge megaphone plus a large drum, but now he has a couple assistants doing the drum part. Bucknell should hire him to come to basketball games.
3. Listed attendance was 2887 and that was pretty accurate. It is disappointing, but it is not just a Bucknell issue but rather an issue hitting many smaller northeastern schools. For example, Colgate drew 2684 vs Lehigh for their homecoming in perfect weather the previous week. Lehigh just drew 3500 vs Yale. Lafayette's homecoming game vs Fordham drew 2950 last week. (And remember that LU and LC have far more alums who live within 90 minutes of campus than does Bucknell.) Fordham's season opener vs Monmouth drew 2684. Etc.
4. I don't have any stats but I have the feeling that younger alums don't attend Homecoming in nearly the same numbers as previous generations. Typically they instead keep in touch with dozens of classmates via social media, facetime, etc. I know my kids who attended Bucknell are in constant contact with many classmates and they meet for weekend getaways, longer vacations, etc. So Homecoming is nothing special to them.

Make sense. As for todays game vs LC, what can you say. We lose 27-0 and the only positive ther is we held them to 14 fewer point than Fordham did. Of course FU won their game vs LC. LC has an awesome frosh QB who is completing 70 % of his passes and was close to 90% today. And they are not just short oasses, this kid get close to 60 yard in the air, and on target.

Where is our offense? I thought this year would an uphill battle but was expecting to lose 27-21 not by shutout vs LC.
Fordham is more explosive than LC.
Is it the line or lack of skill players/speed or all of the above? I realize we are a young team. Just thought we’d be putting a lot more points on the board.

Part of the problem is due to BU having lost their very good senior QB to a serious knee injury. Part is due to having lost their top two OL to injuries. Also part of the problem is not having any 5th year players. Lafayette brought back five very good players for a 5th year.

This is painful. Hopefully, Fordham plays their 2nd and 3rd string in the second half.

Gave up almost 700 yards of total offense to Fordham. And I’m sure that Fordham played 12 or 15 players in their 5th years. We need to somehow level or even out the playing field. Letter writing campaign? What do you think?
We still have Army coming up in a few weeks and that will be another big challenge.

This is an easier stretch coming up with Georgetown, Colgate, and Lehigh. Maybe they can win one or two of those. But Army and Holy Cross are going to be ugly. Fordham lost 4 fumbles or the score might have been in the 80s.

I personally guarantee you will win the Lehigh game. In six games we have scored no TD's and have been outscored 194-9. Penn is awful, and they won 20-0.

Don't forget we lost to Penn 30-6. The good news is, one team is going to win.

About the only good news about this injury=plagued year is that only three of the 22 starters are seniors. There are nine sophs starting and three frosh. The punter and PK are also sophs.
