From the Cal Bears website

My question is how does Ryan have yet another year of eligibility? He played 3 years for Penn and this year at Cal. I'm glad that he has that opportunity but not sure that I understand how or why. Can someone help?

From the article:
"The NCAA's Division I Council voted last October to extend the eligibility of winter-sport student-athletes who compete during the 2020-21 season, allowing them the opportunity to play five seasons within a six-year span rather than the typical four seasons in five years. The vote enables Anticevich, Foreman and Betley – if he chooses – to return to Berkeley next season."

To put it plainly, nobody uses any eligibility this year. Everyone can come back.

Thanks guys for that explanation. Of course, all the Ivy athletes merely get screwed, especially spring athletes who have now missed two seasons..

With the extra year and the exception, Betley could conceivably come back to Penn for a year as a graduate student?

Ha! How about if Betley, Smith, Towns, Aiken, Bruner, Tape, and Barry all come back to the league for a year?
Wish there was a way to get Dev Goodman back for a bucket.
