Apparently the NCAA has granted a waiver to the 12-game minimum. And apparently the PL realized what a mess the standings are, with so many teams having missed so many games. So the new tournament format is a return to a full-league field - no minimum number of games and no makeup games in early March. Hopefully the Bucknell administration will allow the women to play.

Very interesting. When I saw your headline, I was braced for them shrinking the field out of the dreaded "abundance of caution."

Below, a link to the current league standings and the tournament seeding and tiebreaking procedures.
I invite anyone so inclined to produce a tournament seeding as of today's standings.
And, behold! The return of the tiebreaking coin flip! Actually, it says "coin toss or draw."I have no idea what a "coin draw" is.
Note that the coin toss or draw will be "shown on Zoom." If the league were any fun, they'd make that Zoom session available to everyone.

This is potentially good for the women. Not necessarily good for the men, however, who still had a chance to win their division and get a top three seed.
Men really need to sweep AU, but I doubt that will happen - with AU having played three games recently and the Bison having been sidelined for four weeks. Also AU just got back their top player, Stacy Beckton, who was out with an injury.

If I recall the lore correctly, during the Flannery era, Bucknell's seeding was once decided by a coin flip, conducted during a blizzard, in the kitchen of then-Patriot League employee and current Bison Club director Todd Newcomb.

Here is what the current standings look like, and who each team plays this weekend:
1 Colgate . . . 11 - 1 .917 Two games vs HC
2 Navy . . . . 10 - 1 .909 Two games vs Loyola
3 Lafayette . . . 7 - 5 .583 Two games vs Lehigh
. . . . .
. Army . . . . 6 - 6 .500 Two games vs Boston U
. Bucknell . . . 4 - 4 .500 Two games vs American
. Boston U . . . 5 - 9 .357 Two games vs Army
. Lehigh . . . 4 - 8 .333 Two games vs Lafayette
. Loyola . . . 4 - 8 .333 Two games vs Navy
. Holy Cross . . . 5 - 11 .313 Two games vs Colgate
. American . . . 2 - 5 .286 Two games vs Bucknell
Except for the top three places, all seeds are now determined by PL winning pct. Note that Army currently has the tiebreaker over Bucknell by virtue of its one win over Navy.

It appears the CU games vs. HC have been called off, although there has not been an official announcement.
CU vs. HC games have been taken off CU's official schedule on its website. They're not on HC's site either.
Also, the Holy Cross write-up on their website of the win over BU says: "Holy Cross will return to action next week, when it opens up play in the Patriot League Tournament."
This presumably gives Navy the chance to earn the PLT's No. 1 seed with a pair of wins this weekend, giving the Mids a 12-1 PL record vs. Gate's 11-1.

Thanks for that info Steve. Those games are no longer on the PL site either.
It had been suggested on the HC site that HC had the right to cancel since they had already played 16 games, including 14 within the division. I can understand how why they might have refused to play if it involved an 8 hour round-trip bus ride to likely lose two games. A compromise would have been to find a site in Albany to play. Tough break for CU if it costs the #1 seed.

PL changes the tournament format 02-25-21 06:46 PM - Post#321186

I had been checking daily to see when and where the games would be played. The games were always listed as "TBA."
Your post made me do another check, and they were gone everywhere. They randomly disappeared today with no reasoning, but your explanation makes a lot of sense.
You should get a side job to work the PL's PR -- I wouldn't have had a clue as to why they were off the schedule. So thank you.
Here's hoping Santi Aldama has one more monster individual performance in his back pocket before the PLT. Otherwise, it looks like Colgate is making the trip to Annapolis for the PLT title game if they both get that far.
