Wednesday opening round: Lehigh @ Boston U, and Loyola @ Boston U. Both were huge underachievers this year, but both Boston U and Loyola are very talented.

With their only victories against the worst team in the league, a year to forget. A healthy Meeks all season would have added at least two wins, though I still don’t see this as a top four league team.

With a healthy Meeks all year, I think they would have been in the running for 3rd. Other than Colgate and Navy, I don't see any teams a lot better than a healthy Bucknell team that had been practicing all year. Having said that, the league - from 3rd to 10th - is very balanced.

Bison play at Lafayette 2 PM Saturday.
To its credit, the league is staggering the start times nicely in both the first round and quarterfinals.
One quarterfinal slot is TBA (at Colgate), but the others start at noon, 2pm and 3pm.

Coach Meehan on the postgame referenced that only 3 of the 4 players who were out vs American will be back for playoffs. Sure hope it’s not JM.

I wonder if we'll find out during Wednesday's final virtual basketball luncheon.

Are there any other players in the league in a situation like the Bucknell players that had to sit out? I saw Cam Davis is one and had to sit out Navy’s last game due to contract tracing and am curious if there are others.

Holy Cross just announced that they are out of the tournament due to a positive covid test. I doubt the PL will re-do the bracket, so Loyola likely ends up with a forfeit win. They will be very dangerous for Navy in the next round.

Boston U won 69-58 but they really weren't threatened after they closed the first half on a 6-0 run for an eight point lead. LU's 6-11 starting center Nic Lynch ended up with 0 points, 1 rebound, and 0 blocks in 17 minutes
Lehigh finished up ranked #330 (Pomeroy), with a 4-11 record and last in the PL. This was easily the worst year of the 14 years of the Doctor Reed era. The second worst was last year. LU only has one senior (Marques Wilson), so next year could be better. LU's #330 ranking, btw, is the 3rd worst for a PL team in at least the last 20 years.

Colgate Steve, have you been having any Max Mahoney nightmare flashbacks leading up to today's game?
We've been saying it all year, but not sure there's any result that could come as much of a surprise today.

For those who have forgotten, Boton U was actually picked for 1st in the preseason poll. Although Mahoney is gone, they returned everyone else with the exception of Alex Vilarino, who played about 12 mpg off the bench in PL play.
It's amazing that Boston U could go 6-10, facing an average schedule, with all the players who returned. One thing that killed them is that they played poor defense all year. Also, except for Brittain-Watts, they are a very mediocre three-point shooting team. Still, if I were Colgate, Boston U is about the last team I'd want to be facing in the first round.

Maybe their morale was crushed by the humiliation of being forced to play with masks on their chins.

Covid protocol. Huge loss for the Mids. With Loyola fully healthy for the first time all year, I think they are the favorite today.
