Navy was forced to shut down all sports, except for men's basketball- due to positive covid tests. Thus they are out of the women's tournament.

Seeds:

1 Bucknell
2 Boston U
3 American
4 Lehigh
5 Holy Cross
6 Army
7 Lafayette
8 Loyola

Bison will play Loyola in the first round next Sunday in Sojka.

Hate to be that person, but I wonder if the #1 seed by the men had anything to do with the men being able to continue while all other sports are over.

I think you're in the right ballpark, but I think the Academy probably gave their men's team special treatment a week ago - by putting them into quarantine - because they are having a great season and had a shot to win it all. Athletic success is a HUGE factor in everything they do. And Navy has gone 20 years without getting to a PL final, so winning this year has to be a massive priority. Navy actually went 15 straight years without even reaching the semis until they got there in 2017.

Having said that, if their men's team had no positive tests, I wouldn't be stunned if they claimed the team had been in lockdown just to make it appear they weren't getting special treatment.

Navy women were 5-3 in league play, in case anyone else wondered how they were doing before being put in dry dock.

Against a pretty easy schedule however. Navy ended up not playing any games against the league’s top 3: Bucknell, Boston U, and Lehigh. They also avoided #5 Holy Cross.

The Bison women beat Loyola 65-50 today in the first round. They looked like a team that hadn't played a game in five weeks and had had few full practices.

BU finished the first half on a 15-0 run over 5:30. Except for that run, they played Loyola, the league's worst team, exactly evenly. If they don't up their game by Thursday, they won't beat Lehigh - who may be the league's #2 team.

For the Bison, two players had double doubles. Taylor O'Brien got 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Tessa Brugler had 11 and 11.

Agree that the women looked like a team that was very rusty on Sunday, and also agree that they are in trouble if they play like that vs LU. But I don’t expect they will play like they did vs Loyola. That one game and a few additional practices should get them close to where they were before being shutdown.

But if you are looking for something to be concerned about, how about having to beat a team, especially a good team, 5 times in a row in order to keep your season going?

I think the ladies will do it!

This will be the teams 10th game against only three teams all starting with the letter L - Lafayette (2), Lehigh (5), and Loyola (3).

That's one L of a streak. Here's hoping we ruin it by beating Lehigh and advancing to face Boston University or American.

Just like the men. It’s nearly impossible to take a month off with no games or practices and compete with a team well prepared and in postseason form. Go Bison!

For the women, it is a lot worse. They were shut down for an extra week, and I understand a couple players actually had covid. It normally takes a long time to fully recover.

Oh. I hadn't heard that.

In any event, they had more recovery time. The women got shut down the final week - when the men were playing - due to positive tests among players.

They just didn't have enough time to prepare for the tournament. Lehigh is a good team. You're not going to beat them while shooting this poorly and turning the ball over so many times. The only silver lining is that there is supposed to be a WNIT, so we presumably will get an auto bid if Bucknell will let them go.

Would sure hope so, but with this administration I wouldn’t count on it. Really sad for these fine young women to have to go through this. Go Bison.

Too much downtime. Couldn’t overcome the lack of work. They got it too a 1 possession game, but LU hung tough. Was impressed with Clair Steele for the Hawks.

Any word on a WNIT bid? It would appear that the women qualify for an automatic bid:

https://womensnit.com/sports/2019/2/10/Post _021019...

Unlike the men's NIT they have 32 teams scheduled.

They deserve a chance to play!

So far, they only list 5 automatic qualifiers:

California Baptist (22-0), WAC
Louisiana (16-6), Sun Belt
New Mexico (15-4), Mountain West
Samford (14-9), SoCon
UT Martin (20-5), Ohio Valley

From what I'm reading on Twitter it sounds like their season is over. I suspect Bucknell is not letting them travel to the tournament, especially since it is multiple days.

Wouldn’t be surprised at all. With this administration and AD athletics is not that important. BU used to be the gold standard of the PL, regularly winning team championships and President’s Cups. Now we’re middle of the pack at best and steadily becoming bottom feeders. Really sad and again I feel bad for these fine women and their coaches.

This is really sad. I’m a little stunned how slowly the vaccines are rolling out in rural Pennsylvania. My 78 year old mother still can’t get an appointment. That said, healthy 18-22 Division 1 athletes are not a risk group. Period. That’s established science at this point not conjecture.

It's not the AD. These decisions are being made at much higher levels.

Lehigh held on to beat Boston on the road. I have said all year they were the second best team in the league, and not far behind the Bison. A number of upsets in mid-major tournaments (MAC, CAA & C-USA) may help their seed. Can't see them being any lower than a 14.

So are the women considered PL regular season Champs? I certainly do. They are not going to the WNIT. Does anyone know for certain whether it was Bucknell that shut them down, or were they not offered an automatic qualifier bid, or did the team itself make a decision?

I don't know anything for certain. But I can't imagine the team would have decided not to play.
