Not a great surprise although I thought they might give him one more year.

Coach is a class act. I’m sure he will have no problem finding another position if he wants.

I’m sure Mason is happy according to their basketball forum/board people are going to buy season tickets now that he is gone. Haha

Mason was a dumpster fire when DP took the job. He brought the program back to respectability. He just could not get them over the hump and into the NCAA/NIT.

In retrospect, he should have stayed at Bucknell given all the talent he left behind.

I think Mason nearly doubled his salary. That’s hard to leave that kind of money and the chance to coach in the A-10 on the table. But you’re right.

I see DP being looked at for lots of different positions. He’d be a good fit at Jacksonville University in the ASUN. A program desperate for mediocrity.

Indiana did this too. They hired a great coach to primarily get into the Big Dance. It doesn't happen, then they fire good coach, who thrives elsewhere while they flounder worse than ever.
A college team like Indiana or George Mason who hire for the tournament contaminate the process of developing a great team. Paulson probably has a few offers by now and will do well wherever he lands.

Paulie, I see your point, but I find it difficult to compare the expectations at Indiana and George Mason. IMO, at Indiana, the expectations are to make the tournament just about every year and make a run in the tournament every few years. At George Mason, if they make the tournament every few years and make a run every 10 years, that's pretty good.
New season, new team, new dream . . .
