Preseason poll was released today. Votes by the head coaches and the SID's, as usual.
2021-22 Patriot League Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll
1. Boston University, 154 (11 first-place votes)
2. Colgate, 153 (9)
3. Navy, 114
4. Army West Point, 89
5. American, 79
T6. Bucknell, 73
T6. Lafayette, 73
8. Loyola Maryland, 65
9. Holy Cross, 53
10. Lehigh, 47

I think that they have Army and Bucknell ranked too high, and Loyola and Lehigh too low. LU returns their top seven players, and 11 of their top 12. The poll's top three is exactly the same as my own ranking.
One sign of the times: four of the five players selected for the preseason All-PL team are 5th year players.

Here is the CBS PL rankings:
112 Colgate
159 Navy
207 Loyola
216 Army
244 American
260 Boston U
273 Lafayette
277 Bucknell
278 Lehigh
297 Holy Cross
It's safe to say that very little research went into these rankings. In particular, I think it is absurd to have Boston U, who has all of their players back, ranked that low. Boston has three 5th year players who have been multi-year starters.

Here are Blue Ribbon's rankings - which were put together by HoopTime. I was disappointed with his analysis of the league, especially the factual errors.
1 Colgate
2 Boston U
3 Navy
4 Lehigh
5 Bucknell
6 Lafayette
7 American
8 Army
9 Loyola
10 Holy Cross
Not sure why he has Bucknell and Lehigh ranked much higher than any other site/publication. Perhaps familiarity with Davis and Reed. Or in the case of Bucknell, maybe he believes ND's buildup of Josh Adoh as something like the second coming of Cam Ayers. I hope he's right, but I'm not buying it.

In light of last year's diminished schedules and the full implementation of the transfer portal, preseason rankings are almost impossible. Other than Colgate and Boston, you might as well pull the other names from a hat. But if we're gonna do a pre-season ranking anyway, I agree Lehigh and Bucknell mid pack is a reasonable guess.

Given the changes to the Bucknell roster, I have absolutely no idea of where to rank the team this year. If anything, my guess is bottom half of PL, but with 18-22 year olds, you never know.

Patriot League Preseason Poll 10-21-21 10:10 AM - Post#327310

By the way, Ken Pomeroy is now reset for 2022 and agrees with the general tone of this discussion.....
His take on the Patriot League:
1. Colgate
2. Navy
3. Boston
4. Army
5. American
6. Lehigh
7. Loyola
8. The Team In Easton
9. Bucknell
10. Cross
My take is that the league will be much more competitive from top to bottom this year. I don't think Colgate will be nearly as dominate as in recent years....
