Yes, great season. They were inexplicably picked for ninth in the official preseason poll, which made no sense at all. They had a bit of a late season slump which dropped them to fourth place, but they won a key final regular season game and then ran the tournament table.
Freshman center mid Teresa Deda deservedly got the MVP award. Even though she is about 5 foot two, she made first team All-PL as a freshman, and had the winning goal in the semis and in today’s game. The team should be loaded next year, with nine starters returning, including PL offensive POY Rylee Donaldson, Deda, plus super athletic goalkeeper Jenna Hall.
I was particularly happy for the two senior captains. Claire Mensi made the all-tournament team after missing most of two seasons with two separate torn ACL’s, and Holly Burns returned recently after missing most of the season with an injury. Team today played without both of their starting outside mids , one of whom has a lower leg injury from two weeks ago, and the other one was injured early in the game On a bad foul that the ref chose to ignore. In general he did not have a good game or a consistent one.

A couple of other notes:
1. This is the first time since the league went to a 6-team tournament in 2013 that a team seeded worse than 2nd ever won. Prior to this, a team with a first round bye - and more rest - always won.
2. Bison outside mid, Kennar Gelman, a soph who has played very well this year, unfortunately dislocated her shoulder on the blatant but uncalled foul eight minutes into the game. With 2nd team All-PL mid Abby Gearhart also out, it looks like the Bison will enter the NCAA tournament missing both outside mids.

Wow, congrats to these women. Happy to see local player, Paige Temple, having a huge impact as well.

Worth noting, the team was very good all year at earning corner kicks, and rarely lost that battle to an opponent. They did it again today, by a margin of 5-1. I think it’s fitting that they won the championship off a corner kick.

True. To your point, the Bison for the year earned 143 corners while giving up 72.
Also Teresa Deda has been very good all year with her deliveries on those corners. She is "ambidextrous" and can kick right-footed and left-footed with equal strength and accuracy = usually taking the kicks from the right side with her left foot and vice versa. That is one reason she led the PL is assists.

As expected, the Bison drew a #1 seed, in this case Rutgers, on the Rutgers home field. Rutgers went undefeated in regular season Big Ten play, but lost in the B10 championship game to nationally ranked Michigan. Rutgers is 3rd nationally in RPI.

Just to finish out this thread, the Bison lost at Rutgers 2 to 0 last month. Had some good scoring opportunities including hitting the crossbar in the second half. Rutgers then advanced to the overall semi finals, were they lost by a goal to the ultimate champ Florida State, another #1 seed.
