Yale takes on The Walking Recruiting Violation at the Barclays Center on Sunday. He may bring Iona with him, I'm not sure.
Iona is long and quick and Pitino has been known for his defensive acumen for years. EJ Jarvis took a knee to the head against Albany (poor guy has had some rotten injury luck this year), so he may be out, which won't help.
This doesn't look like a fabulous matchup on paper for the Bulldogs. In addition to Iona outsizing Yale 1-5, they're also fourth in the country in d3FG% and 22nd in block percentage. (What this implies is that they play tight on the perimeter and rely on rim protection a la Penn.) Since Yale has had, ah, something of a problem with being on the receiving end of an all-you-can-eat Spaldingburger buffet, this looks a bit concerning on the offensive end.
Fortunately, Iona has been pretty offensively mediocre. They're 220th in the country in eFG% (Yale also hasn't exactly been great at shooting either, but that's due in large part to how mercurial they've been - some games the basket looks ocean-sized, some games it looks pea-sized), and they rely pretty heavily on ORBs (99th in the country in ORB rate) and free throws (11th in the country in FTR).
Ought to be an interesting one; I think Yale's got a real chance at this one, but it's gonna take a full 40 minutes.

Well, that was frustrating.
The one thing that that Iona team does poorly is shoot, so of course they shot over 45% from 3 on the night. Yale seemed to figure out the right adjustments to make as the night wore on, but the execution was just not there consistently enough.
I really noticed the difference that Basa-Ama made in there - with a shot-blocking big in the lineup, Iona got hesitant around the rim and what had been layups in the first half turned into turnovers or blocked shots in the second.
Worthy of note that Azar had a literal career night tonight - a career high 34 points, including seven made threes. Against one of the best defenses in the country, to boot. I believe he also tied the Yale career made-3s mark too, but don't quote me on that.
At some point, you'd like to think that this team will put together a forty-minute performance. They've shown flashes of what they can be, but it hasn't been enough against a meat grinder of a schedule so far this year.

From the YDN :
- Yale was lacking a key player, EJ Jarvis ’23, entering the game Sunday night. Jarvis made his first career start during Yale’s win over Albany Tuesday before suffering what appeared to be an elbow to the head and leaving the game early. He was not on the Yale bench Sunday night, and Jones said postgame that the junior forward has concussion symptoms.
Meanwhile, first-year Molloy left the game after appearing to injure some part of his lower body while landing on the court after a putback dunk, and foul trouble presented another complicating factor. -
